Author’s note: This page will describe the upgrades available to the Welmax MXR-20 assault rifle. If you want to see the description of basic weapon, go here-(www.deviantart.com/biomechanoi… )
Overview:
As with any versatile tool or weapon the phrase “Good for everything, perfect for nothing” can be applied to MXR-20. The assault rifle on its own is a versatile weapon and is good in most, but bad in some particular tactical situations which may require extra precision, or on the contrary some extra firepower.
Most of the upgrades are done to improve the weapon’s performance in it’s intended role as a main combat weapon, but some of them are more dedicated to specializing the weapon for some particular tasks.
MXR-20 features four picatinny rails: one long on top of the weapon, two on the side, and at the bottom.
Sights:
The assault rifle features a long picatinny rail for mounting various sights.
Before we continue, it should be noted that the standard sights, while being the default part of the weapon, are not affixed to the weapon body, but are placed on a picatinny rail and can be easily removed, if the one desires, though there is usually no need for this.
The user can install either any type of reflex sights, a low magnification optic sight, or long range marksman sight, if desires.
One possible setup is to install a holographic or red dot sight and a side flipping magnifier, so the user will be able to aim both at targets at short distance, and when necessary-flip the magnifier and aim at long range.
Another possible setup is to install TOS-4 tactical optic sight, which comes with it’s own accessory rail, and place there a reflex sight for backup.
Side and bottom rails:
The side and bottom rails can be used to mount either a laser sight, a tactical flashlight or a combination of the two devices. There is also a “revisor” digital ammo counter to help the user to keep the track of remaining ammo.
The bottom rail can be used to install either, a vertical or an angled front grip, as well as a folding one, as well as a bipod for those who like to shoot from prone position.
And the last thing is the “Fragtrack” system. The “fragtrack” is more of a tool of statistics, than any practical upgrade. This device not only records how many people did you kill, but also shows, the detail of each kill, for example how many shots did you fire, and how many hit the target. Or how many headshots did you during the skirmish. The “fragtrack” consists of two devices: the camera sensor, which doesn’t make a movie, but tracks the bullet trajectory and hit spot. And a digital display, which is used to display how many kills you made.
Magazines:
MXR-20 comes with a 20-round magazine by default. But the user may opt to use either an extended 30-round magazine, or a small 10-rounder. There is also a 60-round drum mag, and if the user is robust enough, there is a 120-round saddle drum magazine.
All box magazines either can be coupled, for faster reloading, or have a quick-detach clamp for the same purpose.
Secondary weapon systems:
If the used desires, the one can install either and underbarrel grenade launcher, or an underbarrel shotgun. And Welmax manufactures both of these.
The welmax UGL-40 is an underbarrel grenade launcher, that fires 40mm grenades, it is affixed under the barrel, and interfaces with the bottom and the side rails, preventing the side rail usage.
Welmax masterkey is a pump-action underbarrel shotgun, that is chambered in 12-gauge. It holds 4 shotgun shells(1 chambered and 3 in the magazine).
Internal upgrades:
Some gunsmith’s can work with the weapon internals, to improve it’s characteristics. For example the user may opt to replace the barrel with the one with a smaller twist rate for better accuracy or work with the internal parts to reduce the jamming rate of the weapon, etc.
