BGS2-3C BARGHEST

One of the secondary benefits realized by the success of building a fully Clantech Crusader with the 10S, was the ability to start building similar tech components for the rest of the designs in TharHes Industries stable.

One such beneficiary would be the Barghest, which would receive a major overhaul including ideas gleaned from the FedSuns ThunderFox, so as to be considered a whole new chassis, with lessons learned from nearly a century of production of the original Barghest allowing them to further improve ride quality, overall suspension being enhanced, range of motion improved, etc. Structurally it still has a 50% parts compatibility with the original, but virtually all it's other systems would be replaced by brand new clan tech versions.

Built around a clantech 350 XL engine, it retains the base speed of the Barghest, and improves upon it, with the addition of a Supercharger. This is potentially further enhanced by the inclusion of triple strength myomers. In the heat of battle, if the pilot engages the super charger, the new Barghest II can hit speeds up to 129 kph in short burst.

The original test model largely mimicked the 1 series Bargest, with an LB-20X and 2x ER Large Lasers, just improved to clan versions. But midway thru testing and trials, TharHes procured the technical data package for a clan spec Rotary AC5 from the Sea Foxes. This caused an immediate change to the Rotary, now supported by 2 Large Pulse Lasers, providing withering firepower with an overall better average reach and accuracy. These are cooled by 12 DHS within it's engine.

While not an omnimech, the shoulder mount itself is largely modular, allowing a weapons swap or reconfiguration to be done in half the time of normal. This has allowed at least one variant to already be tested, which mounts an LB-10X in the place of the RAC, and replaces one ton of ammo for a head mounted ECM suite.

Some feel the addition of TSM to be a bit extravagant, as it cannot "engage them at will" like the Solaris jocks do without the pilots setting up a hot witch to dump a specific amount of heat sinks offline. The engineers are not as concerned, because the point of the machine isn't to try to run into melee combat, but to fight at all ranges, and it can usually engage it's myomers before entering melee range simply from normal heat load from firing as it closes.

Lastly, much like the Wolfhound, the new Barghest features a Full Head Ejection System.

Variants: The original model only started to be deployed at the end of 3151, while the above mentioned LB-10X model is expected by mid 3152. Beside that, at least one version with jump jets has been seen going through the paces at the proving grounds. In place of the Autocannon were a pair of Streak 6 Racks, and the LPLs were retained.
