MotR 23/16 Is it a Dragon? Well, not exactly?
It's a bird, it's a plane... it's a Star League Era "city fighting" Mech with an oddly bad weapons payload for the job...
It's WYVERN MAN!
*Sigh* Also known as C3-P0, or the Android from Metropolis, etc. Or... kind of a logical loadout for a Trooper Mech. The LRM doesn't make a lot of sense for city fighting, and the small lasers are pretty useless, when it could be packing MGs or SPLs for infantry. I'm usually less sold on Flamers, since usually burning down the city is considered a bad thing, unless you're a Capellan.
Regardless, it is what it is, but me also being me? I felt the urge to slap together a semi field upgrade for the Jihad era. The Double Heat Sinks are the only part that takes an particularly special work to modify. Keeping the armor, CASE, engine, etc, all essentially the same (yes, I shaved a half ton of leg armor off).
But for armament? First thing I do is rip out both missile systems for a pair of Stream SRM racks, a 4 rack in the RT, a 6 in the CT. Both replacement systems more or less are the same mass as the weapons they replace. But jsut as important, Streaks don't cause collateral damage the way standard SRM/LRM/MRMs do.
In place of the ancient Large Laser, I add a new Snub Nose PPC, matching the range, but adding punch and "accuracy" (9 hex short range bracket). Replacing the unloved Small Lasers? I give it a choice for how it deals with infantry. I replace one with a Small X-Pulse Laser, the other with a classic Zippo Flamer.
The last ton I add a TAG to the head mostly to bring in Semi Guided LRMs if I need support. But conversely I did consider keeping the half ton of armor, and adding a Remote Sensor Dispenser, as I think being able to lay down your own early warning sensor net in a city would be really useful, too.
Anyhow, based it off the the WVN-5UX Wyvern "City". Ended up a tad slender, but so it the OG, I guess?
