Description "The Boeing 1717 TwinLiner is an original solution to double the capacity of a short-range airliner. Fuselages are joined to increase lift capacity and shorten takeoff. Thrust is provided by five small jet engines, three at the rear of the fuselages and two at the tip of the fins."

Wonder what would actually happen if they did this LOL. (it would be cool if they had really complex computer simulation stuff to test theoretical aerodynamics).

I can see your Photoshop error, but it's a nice concept.Β

You mean, the landing gear? Or the identical double trail?

The landing gear. The center one.

What I'm assuming, is that the secondary cockpit would possibly be some extra storage space. The aircraft would probably need FBW if it's going to only be controlled from on cockpit, because having two sets of pilots seems a little unconventional.Β

The only way I see it working is if you put pilots on each cockpit, each with their controls connected like some smaller propeller aircraft.Β
To me that would make sense as well.

In my mind I see many applications and configurations for the 1717!

I envision the extra cockpit area as three possible things:

- a separate cabin for the navigator (but that doesn't exist on modern planes anymore)

- a separate cabin for special technicians (in the case of a purpose-built military aircraft with EW, jamming or other systems)

- a top class business-like compartment for rich travelers who want a view.
