Personality
Persistent - Curious - Dramatic - Secretive - Socialite- Flamboyant
Please try your best but know you're never gonna catch me
Persistent: Winnie's innocent looks and nature are deceiving, she is very persistent when it comes to getting what she wants. Whether that be finding the best story, or manipulating her way to be the first reporter on a crime scene. Needless to say, she knows how to use her looks to her advantage. She acts innocent, when in reality, she is just manipulating someone to get what she needs.
Dramatic: Previously trained as an actress, she tends to wear her heart on her sleeve and doesn't hold back her emotions. She has learned that if she produces tears, dogs flock to her aid (and she's good at faking to get what she wants). She often uses her dramatic fits as a way to gain attention and get what she wants. She fits the "high maintenance" label, in the sense that those who form relationships with will have to put up with her constant mood swings and whining. She is needy and self-obsessed.
Curious: Winnie often sticks her nose into places that gets her in trouble. She does not learn from her mistakes in this sense, her curiosity tends to take over and then she won't be stopped. This trait makes her good at her job. While this trait is useful in her field, she actively seeks out personal drama of other dogs.
Secretive: Winnie has a very loaded past, including a criminal history, and is a failed actress. However, she remade herself and joined the Press. Needless to say, she doesn't disclose much about her past to anyone. Even though she denies events of her past, they may yet haunt her. She actively rewrites facts about her history, and doesn't disclose the truth.
Socialite: Winnie loves being the center of attention, going to fancy events, and talking about her "made up" aristocratic past. Winnie will spread lies about her grandiose life before joining the press. She will weave tales of mansions, grand parties, royalty, all of that. All of it is false, but she finds that these lies make people interested in her. She easily makes friends because she is so social. However, if the potential friend is of a lower rank, she may hold off on friendship. She actively seeks out those who are higher than her and tried to befriend them. If someone calls her out on her status or accuses her of lying, she will get mad. Although, MOST dogs will pick up on her lies- as her previous life seems "too good to be true".
Flamboyant: This trait ties all of Winnie's personality together. She flaunts herself to her co-workers to the point of annoyance to most. She is always interested in the latest fashions, which again, ties into the fact she is high-maintenance. She pretends she is more aristocratic than she is in reality. She is not a stranger to using flattery and flirting to manipulate others!
Likes: Acting, attention, her job, sweaters, scarves, fashion, drinking (oops...)
Dislikes: The cold, nosy people, talking about her REAL past, violence

Pre-Group History
"There must be a better place to be somebody else"
Winifred "Winnie" Lewis was born to immigrants who had recently moved from England. Her parents were neither poor nor rich, but always instilled a strong sense of propriety in their daughter hoping that one day she would marry a rich man to increase their status. Her most memorable moment in her life was when she was 10 years old and got a chance to see a Broadway play (at the time they lived in Manhattan). That is when her dreams begin to form- she wanted so badly to be an actress! Otherwise, she had a fairly normal upbringing, despite high requirements from her parents.
Winnie's life long dream was to be an actress. She moved into the city when she was 19 to pursue this career. She trained dutifully, but never landed more than a few small acting jobs. She witnessed others rise above her, and gain fame. Winnie was disheartened by this, and wasn't sure why she wasn't experiencing the same. She was a beautiful dog, she was a good actress. Winnie only received the least desirable roles, and she blamed herself for her failure. However, the field of acting at the time was highly competitive, and Winnie just couldn't seem to make her dreams of being a successful actress a reality. After receiving poor reviews from an acting agent who she hoped to sign on with, she made the decision to leave acting behind.
Because Winnie was only making ends meet, she had no savings. The poor whippet was broke and in her mind was worthless. This was her lowest and most vulnerable point in life, which was when she met a charming and rich gangster who was exactly what she needed. The gangster took her in and treated her well enough, but Winnie knew she was only wanted for her looks.
Winnie joined the Press in an attempt to recreate her life that was in shambles. A year prior to this job, Winnie was dating a high ranking gangster. She was mostly found at parties in speakeasies being flaunted for her beauty by her partner. Drinking was one of her main past-time activities, blocking out the knowledge of the horrors her significant other would take part in as a gangster. If there was one word to describe her- it was scared, she knew she could never betray him or leave the relationship. She knew she would be nothing without his money and help, she would be destitute. However, she was good at hiding her fear. Winnie put on a facade of one who loved life and was oblivious to the gangster's business. Her true feelings were numbed by her drinking and drug abuse. Her partner spoiled her with fancy clothes, jewelry, and anything she could ask for. But, in turn, he expected her to keep silent, and even occasionally made her an accessory to the crimes he would commit. He was not outright abusive, which was all too common (she was friends with other gangster's wives or significant others), so for that, she was thankful. However, she knew this was a life that she couldn't continue.
She was finally given the opportunity to escape that life when her partner died in a fight. She believed that it was only a matter of time, and used this moment to seize a new life. She had always been a decent writer so she applied to the Press. During her interviews, she conveniently left out any notion of her true past, and lied about her former life.
Generally, she does, maybe not consciously, consider herself worthless and believes she only will be safe if she has a significant other to "take care of her". This idea is partly because of the time period, and partly because of her previous relationship which made her feel useless except for her beauty. So she will actively be searching for a successful dog who will put up with her antics. In the meantime, she surrounds herself with friends. She believes if people around her find out about her past, she will be left in the dust yet again. In her mind, she can't go through that again.
Winnie currently is good at her job, keeps her head low in the office and follows orders well. On the street, she is a good interviewer and knows how to ask the right questions to the right people to get a good story.
