hard to say... I worked on it during a period of 3 and a half months. But sometimes only a few hours, on other days I used the full day. I would roughly estimate 150hrs of pure working time.

Quick question, how do you get the thin, inner lines on the top? Did you paint them, sew them or stich them by hand? I'm just wandering because I'm about to start sewing my top for this costume and I really need to know. Thanks in advance.

I painted all lines, thin and thick ones
Good luck with the costume!

black---butterfly In reply to Maw1227 [2015-03-15 08:15:51 +0000 UTC]

You mean the material cost when sewing it yourself or if i would sell it?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Maw1227 In reply to black---butterfly [2015-03-15 14:59:06 +0000 UTC]

Sell it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

black---butterfly In reply to Maw1227 [2015-03-17 15:56:20 +0000 UTC]

the material costs alone for the entire costume are about 350 Euro (~380$).
And in case I would sell it, I would sell it only completely.

Pleated skirts are absolute murder! I recently did my first pleated skirt and wow. So much measuring, it's really annoying. I really like your work, it's super clean. The lines are very even and it's very pretty! I'll definitely have to check out your finished product because even the WiP is very lovely.Β

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

black---butterfly In reply to zenturtle651692 [2014-04-06 08:02:39 +0000 UTC]

yes I find them annoying as well
thanks a lot for the compliment, I'm happy that you like it but this was my... 10th pleated skirt so far. my first one looked terrible lol you just need practice to get things cleaner ;D

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

zenturtle651692 In reply to black---butterfly [2014-04-06 20:51:49 +0000 UTC]

Oh well then 10 pleated skirts would definitely make for a better one than a first try. I guess I misread your description, now I feel silly, whoopsee . Practice, practice all the time. Sewing is very tedious…just like any other art of course. It's just so different from anything I've done before that it frustrates me.

Thank you for your kind reply!

How did you do the detailing of the crosses and star things and the red line near the trimming?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

black---butterfly In reply to Madam-Hell [2014-01-25 08:31:46 +0000 UTC]

I painted everything with a small brush and fabric color

Tigermis-Cosplay In reply to black---butterfly [2013-03-06 07:51:19 +0000 UTC]

okay then.. where the hell did you sew it on, so you didnt get ugly stitches on the jacket?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

black---butterfly In reply to Tigermis-Cosplay [2013-03-06 08:36:33 +0000 UTC]

I sewed it only on the inner seames of the top. the long piece is light enough so that it works to be sewn on only at 5 or 6 little places

WOW! this is absolutely stunning! I cant wait to see the finished product! may i ask what kind of fabric you used? I'm looking to make the costume myself, and i was thinking twill might b good, or should i just go for the regular cotton broadcloth? as well as the paint wat brand did you use? cuz from these pictures it looks a lot like bias tape for the red trims and decor, so very well done on that part might i say ^^

oh and regarding your questions: you can have a look at my blog: [link]
here you can find the whole making of and I explain what fabric and colors and other materials I used^^

sakykeuh In reply to black---butterfly [2013-02-11 17:48:51 +0000 UTC]

No problem
WHAAAATT so much *faints* i was like thinking to make it myself too but 1 i don't know how to start (i have no sewing machine anymore) 2 its much more money then buying D: and 3th it will never be perfect like this :c

i wish i could make costumes like you !

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

black---butterfly In reply to sakykeuh [2013-02-12 09:02:48 +0000 UTC]

yes... I'm shocked myself when I think about how much I spent ;_; It did not seem that much when I started. But then I had to buy this and this again, and also a bit of those and voila.. almost 300 bugs XDD""

aaahhh ok, without a sewing machine it is really difficult to sew something big and complicated like this.
yes.. you can buy the costume much cheaper. but I personally did not like the ones on ebay and I really enjoy the sewing part XD so for me it was clear to sew the costume and do my very best

oh.. and that is all practice!! I sewed 62 costumes so far. someday there is a point where you really got the routine to sew such stuff D you would be able, too, to sew such a costume if you did 62 others before XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

sakykeuh In reply to black---butterfly [2013-02-12 14:59:19 +0000 UTC]

Lol poor you ! XD i understand i had that with my sakura cosplay i was like "i want that form and oh the childhood" and bla bla bla and now i have like all her costumes bought XD i don't even remember how much i payed for them XD oh well i like them and they are handy

I know, my mom has like two sewing machines but one doesnt work and the other is something wrong with the needle cause we can't get it out anymore :c my mom always said she'll ask someone but its like 2 years now alreadt since it didn't work *sighs*.. i don't like the costumes either on ebay i like yours much more but as said before when i have no sewing machine or never made a costume before its pretty hard to impossible to make it this perfect as you. i was thinking in asking someone but then again he or she will ask the hours he worked on it too and that will be much more expensive then on ebay and when you are a child who's studying (and not having vacation job yet) it is hard to pay.. actually i was thinking in asking you but when you told me to money i was like "oh god if this perfect work costed so much how much will it be for me or for others r for her to make it".. so yea it sucks a bit..cause i get sad and jealous by seeing everyone being able to make costumes on their own and having their dreams being realized.

YOU SEWED 62 COSTUMES !!!? woooooooww thats like sooooo amazing ! you could start up your own shop XD damn i could never sew 62 costumes lol. Its awesome when you have it as a daily routine then its really easy to sew a costume..
