Description If I may be serious for a moment... Homelessness is a big issue in Vancouver. BC's housing is so expensive that people are forced out to the streets. Some people are lazy and don't feel the need to work or contribute anything to society and some made some bad decisions in their life that force them to the streets. They're people forgotten by society. They are invisible to us. Do they deserve a second chance?

We should be reminded that no matter how annoyed you hear your parents or other people lecture you about going to school, staying away from drugs, etc, that they're absolutely correct. You could very well wake up one morning in a box under the bridge.

*Shot taken on Granville Street, just outside The Bay

On the turning away,
From the pale and downtrodden,
And the words they say which we won't understand,
Don't accept that what's happening,
It's just a case of others' suffering,
Or you'll find that you're joining in the turning away

I love imagery that speaks of issues in today's world. This photo makes a point on showcasing homelessness and how "normal" people just pass on by, waiting for someone else to deal with this "problem." It's sad, but that is exactly how our society works. I really like how the woman is blurred in motion and the homeless man is frozen in time. The woman seems to be busily rushing off, with her expensive handbag, and ignoring life around her. She could pass by that building several times in a day and that man would still be there, completely unnoticed.

The idea behind this photo and the emotion it invokes are strong, but I believe that they would be stronger if the lower, left-hand corner was not so empty and if there were more people walking by inside the frame.

yep that guy is there every day
he isn't one of those people who have a sign saying they need money, he's just there with a cup. the sidewalk is quite large so people tend to stay far outside as they possibly can. however there are some people who drop change-- mostly tourists-- which is what disappoints me. why should the tourists be the only ones who tend to help? you would think that the people in the city itself would-- like most BC adds say "Vancouver is a city that helps people!"

It is pity seeing people homeless, even in big city we still can see beggars.

what a meaningful shot
it's the worst to see children born in to homelessness though
i like how you made it b&w, i think it has more effect of coldness/ black and white of reality ish
this is the kind of picture that makes you sad, and then just inspires you to help out the homeless
i hope you did to that man
great job ^^

I actually sat next to the guy. I first asked if I could take his photo for a concept I'm working on. He said it was all right. then I sat next to him for a good 15 minutes just watching people walk by not noticing or ignoring us. I was reaching for a five then he told me to not worry about it. It's like he wanted me to experience what many like him go through every day. I remember I talked to one guy who admitted to screwing up in his life and paid for it in the end. I feel pretty bad that there is pretty much nothing I can do since I, myself, am making barely enough to get by in this city

aww that's real nice i never got the chance to have a real conversation like that, whenever i see people like them i usually go to a store and buy some sandwiches for them. It's kinda depressing because a lot of them are really nice people. i'm glad you talked to that man, he probably needed some company. Yeah, times are tough, but donating can be as little as only 1 dollar, or even books ^^
you're such a kind person, we need more people like you
