Description Now in Native Hawaiian Mythology the volcano goddess Pele had a dog as a companion. This dog was the former pet of the creature known as World Eater or Land Eater. When Pele drove the creature out she took the Dog as a companion. That dog was the guardian of Kilauea the volcano she lives in.

Often in stories the Dog would warn people of when the volcano is going to erupt. It would be seen as walking alongside your house or appear as a red eye form at night. When people see this hound they knew it was time to leave for the dog was only trying to protect them from the fiery wrath of the volcano.

Artists Notes:
Now this image was done in Acrylic paint on a Canvas Pad. It was made to be a companion piece to a painting my grandmother did years ago of Madam Pele herself. I did it for my dad's birthday since he would be turning 58 this year. So Happy Birthday dad!
