happyheart was born as the only female in a litter of three brothers. she was a kitten moons ago when there four clans and vaguely remembers their presence. she lived a happy childhood until the slaughter of thunderclan, windclan and riverclan. happyheart lived through the journey to shadowclan's new home before even being an apprentice.
as a warrior, happyheart yearned for companionship and a family for a long time. finally, she struck up a mystery romance with a tom she kept entirely secret to friends and family. despite her older age, she fell pregnant - and she couldn't be happier.
she found herself best friends to the current deputy, squinting-gaze. the deputy confided in her that she was the only one he would trust to be deputy when the time came. feeling pressured, happyheart poured out her secret: that she was pregnant. she explained she wanted to be his deputy and stand by her best friend's side, but she also didn't want to be a detached and busy mother to her children. squinting-gaze understood, despite being disappointed, and assured her awkwardly that he could find someone else.
as her pregnancy continued, complications arose due to happyheart's old age. when the time finally came, she gave birth to only one kitten, a tiny blue tom. although her heart ached, she took him to squinting-gaze. she loved him, and wanted to see him grow up strong and safe. he could still have that in shadowclan. just not with her. squinting-gaze understood, and took him to live with the queens, saying that he was found abandoned in the forest. he was named icekit, and happyheart felt relieved that she was able to watch him grow up, even as just a stranger. she became deputy when squinting-gaze was named leader, and the two of them rule the clan peacefully.

snailnose was born to be a medicine cat. she found herself sickly very often, even from birth, and trailed behind her brothers and sisters dramatically. being unable to keep up with her peers, she became bitter and jaded. she separated herself even more, and watched her friends grow up from inside the medicine cat's den. finding herself bored, she kept her paws busy with her sort of friend/the only cat she tolerated, the medicine cat, poppyplant. she taught snailnose many things about healing. although snailnose refused to apprentice under her for a long time, she finally came around after months of poppyplant refusing any of apprentices. the snarky medicine cat explained that she believed snailnose was a smart kitten, and only she had the potential to be great. eventually, snailnose let herself be happy in her passion, and many moons later, became the cold, sassy medicine cat shadowclan loves today.
