Description 1 hour painting study of a pug based on this photo: 38.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_kxk…
I used the standard round brush for almost all of it save a little bit of the fur texture. I also tried painting it all in greyscale before adding color with layer styles.

I love their derpy eyes and squishy faces.

Not only is this really really good, but I also thought, from said dog's expression, that the pug was the one studying something. Took me back to those days when I... was.. Supposed to... lol. Never studied. However now that I know you were studying the dog and it's super realistic lookin, that's awesome! :3

Aw, thanks! Haha - a studious pug, that could work for another drawing sometime. ^^

1 hour???? 1 HOUR????? Holy fudge this would take me years!!!! You are super talented!!! This is why you inspire me! You aren't afraid to branch out and try new things. And even if you are, you do it anyway! I'm trying to learn the grayscale shading as well, but I can't figure it out. I'm not sure how to "set it up" layer wise I guess. And I also have a feeling I'm doing it totally wrong. Could you maybe give me some tips?

PS. My sister's favourite dog is a pug. She likes their faces and pudginess as well.

Oh, gosh. I just paint it all one one layer like I would draw a picture in pencil. XD I can send you a screencap of the layers I used for the colors, if that helps. I might just have to make a tutorial thingy sometime, haha.

And thanks so much! I am so bad about never going out of my comfort zone but I try. So glad I inspire you.  ; ;
And yess pugsss. My bro wants to get one when he has his own house and I can just picture him walking it and it's gonna be so awesome.

A screencap/tutorial would be really awesome! And it doesn't matter if you aren't comfortable going out of your comfort zone. That's why it's called, "going out of your comfort zone". What matters is that you do it anyways. I'm hoping to try out more serious art once I get a new sketchbook.

My sister is "moving out" as well. She has a house already, but she still lives with us. It's kind of confusing. She moves out occasionally because of school. I think she is planning on moving out permanently in a year or so though. It's strange to think about . . . My favourite dogs are chihuahuas or shetland sheep dogs. But I have two right now. I have a golden retriever and a mutt with more types of dogs in him than I thought was possible!

Well, here are the layers I used: sta.sh/018bcru1pet
They are all set to "normal" except the one I have highlighted, which is "luminosity". I left it one "normal" while painting it but I changed it to "luminosity" when it was time to add color. That layer style allowed me to color beneath the greyscale painting so that the values would remain but the color would come through. And the layer "details overpaint" is just where I was done with everything but I wanted to touch up a few edges and gray spots by painting on top.

Ah, my brother is 14 so he's got a while. I'm 17 so I'll be the first to leave. I'll likely be like your sister - coming and going while working things out.

Oh, chihuahuas are so funny. ; ; My Dad only likes big dogs, though. But I've never owned a pet. D: I love golden retrievers and mutts are always fun. They have so much character.

Hey Blair! Do you have any tips for fixing up the colours when you do a grayscale painting?

So the layer you had as luminosity is the original grayscale shading you had done, right? Just double checking. This is really helpful by the way, thanks a ton Blair! Also, I wish I had younger siblings, but at the same time, being the youngest has many benefits.

That's right! And you're welcome - glad it was helpful. I might even make a video about it, but I feel like I'm not really qualified to do that, haha.

And I always wondered what it would be like to be a younger sibling - and I wonder what my bro thinks of it. XD
