Description Osthmoorian pilots scramble to their AG-55D Tempest gunships aboard the ORS Aldebaran during a fast response training drill, one of the many conducted by the ORFC in response to the recent rise in smuggler and mercenary vessels passing through the Irridali sector.

3400 has been losing activity recently, so I have decided to kick into maximum-overdrive. In this scene, Osthmoorian Navy pilots rush to their gunships during a training montage, which originally was going to be animated. The scene took around two days to make, the first one was basically just a quick mockup of a hangar with a Tempest attached to it's docking clamp.

The second day was basically changing everything into the finished product you see above. Originally, there was no open hangar door or even walkways for the pilots, just some kind of huge, dark, empty room with a couple of gunships just on display there.

Thanks for looking.

I like it. What did you use to make this? Just M.S. Paint?

I have a lot of respect to artists who can make an MS paint drawing look this good. Damn fine work!

Please refresh my memory, is that a space fighter, or some kind of gunship?

BlastWaves In reply to ZGMF-X42S [2016-07-17 01:26:49 +0000 UTC]

It's a gunship/reconnaissance craft, and the bottom radar-dish is used for scanning enemies far away and on the ground, Β then it shoots them up with the railgun it is mounted on.

Nice, I don't remember it's appearance all that much, but I always thought a good name for such a vessel would be Suzumebachi or something like that, especially since the likeliest design would certainly remind me of a hornet, especially the one it derives it's name from. Β

Ooh, I need to save that, I could perhaps use that name in the future! I agree, it does remind me of a hornet too, now that I look at it.

I might do so myself, with the justification that it's manufactured by a Japanese company for the overall human armed forces. Β It'll also justify why the class names for the space-use warships are names like Akagi or Shimakaze and the like. Β

how do you draw this man? do you have any tutorial i could learn from ?

BlastWaves In reply to vasile20022003 [2016-07-17 01:28:32 +0000 UTC]

Thank you!

Well, I don't have any tutorials, but what I do for example to draw vehicles is basically make a small sketch in MS-Paint with the pencil tool, and then trace over it with the line tool and detail it. I then take it into Paint.NET and do all the shading by hand there, with overlay layers, etc.

Is it posible in future youl be making a video tutorial or atlest a rough recording of how you work >?

I am afraid I won't be able to, as I have no experience in making tutorials nor any recording software, I apologize.

Well, it's important to remember that Paint.NET is a tool, and can't really do everything for you, it still requires someone to create everything, etc.

I honestly don't know what to say, but basically I would recommend checking out some Paint.NET tutorials on YouTube or the PDN forums. It took me awhile to get to understand how to use Paint.NET, but the tutorials really helped.
