2011 EDIT: This was drawn back in 2008 ( see original version here), but I recently was going to try and resize it to fit 11x17 (it was only ever an 8 x 10) ... and then I accidentally recolored it. I can't contain myself when renderbation is an option.Not to be preachy or anything, but it is May. A bunch of students are graduating college, wondering what the hell to do with their lives. XD And I kind of want to say to you what someone else said to me that made a huge difference in my perspective. More artistic growth has happened for me in the two years AFTER graduating than has happened during the 4 years I took my degree. The original version of this illustration I did at the beginning of my senior year, the current version is done 2 years after graduation. There'd be more artistic growth observed if I'd redrawn it too, but the coloring says enough, I think.
So anyway, onwards and upwards.

pointed out back in 2008 that there is another super famous, super amazing artist to produce this concept in this composition. T_T; But by the time I found out, I'd already completed this image, and I liked it, so ... oh wells I guess. Can't have too much Pan and Ophelia anyway. ^___^

I remember when I was younger, I found the DVD and watched it. My dad yelled at me, saying I wasn't old enough yet. I simply tilted my head, and said, "But I love it. Is that monster with the eyeball-hand-things gonna eat her?"

Oh please, girl. Your coloring has been top notch as long as I've known you! (Lord knows I've told you enough times.) This is stunning, and the simplicity of it (compared to some of your multi-image comic pages) just makes the whole thing more sublime. Kudos for revisiting and improving old work! It totally paid off!

On a moment's consideration, it's topheavy. I was considering featuring it, but with it being topheavy I'm not sure. Why aren't there vines or moss decorating the bottom? Maybe not for this pic, but for future ref.

I usually make a rule of not replying to critiques, and this is definitely not a ploy to make you feature this illustration.
But I feel like saying something I guess. It's currently a trend, especially in digital art, that all spaces need to be filled. There needs to be an ass ton of details filling all aspects of an image. There have been DDs I've suggested where the moderator has responded by saying a piece is really nice, but it is just too "simple" for their tastes.
It's a personal frustration of mine.
Quality does not have to be measured by whether or not I have filled the entire canvas with eye candy.
Negative space and simplicity can be just as powerful.
I don't think this illustration would gain anything by having more vines, or text, or grass (what I originally put on the bottom, and then removed.) There is beauty in simplicity. This illustration fades from detailed light to rich shadowed black.
The concept is not furthered by more detail. I would only pander to the masses by adding it.

Ahaha, total agreement on the college thing. And then there's those bloody geniuses who make all their fame and fortune before, or just outright skip, college. *glares at Silicon Valley*
But I like college because it was all about putting your feet to the fire and seeing what you could produce in a [more] disciplined setting than just going it alone. But, yeah, everyone has a different story to tell.

Wow, this is really great! I really wish I could bring myself to watch the movie >_< I can't stand scary movies...maybe I could sit down with a friend who's seen it and have them fast-forward through the really scary bits...
