This is called the "Nil Mahanel" in Sinhalese, botanical name "Nympheae Stelleta". And it is our national flower

It has being mentioned that poets have always related women's eyes to the unopened Nil Mahanel flower. This flower is found in all parts of our country and is used as an offering at many temples. The Nil Mahanel flower is also considered a symbol of truth, purity and discipline
