I witnessed something horrific and fatal today. It was awful. It shocked me into silence. I couldn't come to terms with how fragile we are without even realizing it.

Sometimes I'm not sure why I bother posting artwork on the internet. Sometimes I'm not sure why I bother doing art at all. The internet is saturated with anime and manga artists, most of whom are far more talented than I am. I don't know if I can ever reach a level of skill I would be satisfied with. Producing art doesn't always feel like it has a point.

But when I don't make art I'm thinking about art. When I'm not drawing I'm calculating how much time I'll have to draw later. When I see something I like, I want to incorporate it into a design, a color palette, a piece of art.

I can't measure the worth of my art in terms of the flawed world. I make art for myself. It makes me happy. I love finishing a piece. I love looking back at what I've drawn. I like seeing how I've improved, and how my style changes and changes and changes.

What I saw today reminded me that there isn't enough time for my doubts. If art makes me happy, it's what I should be doing. Whether anyone cares or notices or not. There isn't enough life to not do the things that I enjoy. So I'll just keep drawing, like I always have, because it's what I do.
