Description
The What: Disney's titular character from Bolt, looking famously heroic and determined, seated comparatively next to my fan-character, Shock, who just looks downright sulky and bitter, as usual. For those of you just now jumping on board, my canon for Bolt is that of the television show Bolt thinks is real in the movie—AKA, Penny really is a gifted hacker and spy prodigy turned heroine/damsel in distress when her scientist father really is captured by a real billionaire maniac called Dr. Calico who really does want the secret to his research to really rule the world, and her dog, Bolt, really does have super powers to aid his person. Really.

In my little canon, 'Bolt the Superdog', hopefully soon to be complete with fanfics, Mittens is SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS a former alley cat who works for Doctor Calico but is actually a double agent, having befriended Bolt during one of his world adventures with Penny and owing him a debt for saving her miserable life. Rhino, in turn, makes his cameo as an overweight hamster scheduled to be one of the Green Eyed Man's scientists' unfortunate test subjects as they try to figure out the secrets of the Professor's research, but Mittens manages to smuggle him to freedom. He now acts as a messenger between Bolt and Mittens, since they can't always keep in constant contact, what with Bolt escorting Penny as she alternately runs for her life and searches for her father, and Mittens desperately keeping her true loyalties a secret while uncovering as many of Dr. Calico's secrets as she can. Shock was a nobody—a stray Weimaraner-Husky/Shepherd mix, born on the streets, never having a Person. As a result of his rough life, he's extremely bitter and cynical, resulting in his jealousy of Bolt when they meet. Dr. Calico notices Shock's animosity towards his hated nemesis and his aggressive nature and captures Shock, giving him a name and managing to replicate some, but not all, of Bolt's powers in his newfound henchdog.

As usual, Shock has as many differences as I could give him to Bolt comparatively. They are similar looking, but not ridiculously so. And Bolt? Well, here you have the culmination of all of my practicing with him. He has better posture and is much better groomed than Shock. Of course, he has a loving Person.

The Why: Well! It's been FAR too long, hasn't it? I mean, I haven't posted anything of these two in aaaaaages, have I? I was struck with inspiration upon unexpectedly discovering an old sketchbook of mine with a drawing of Shock and a description of his powers. So here we have them. I'm forever trying to figure out how I want Shock to look, and that's always exciting.

The How: Sketched them in my sketchbook, scanned to the ol' iPad, and from there colored them and touched them up with my Sketch App.

The Problem: I'm actually very pleased its this picture. There are minor mistakes, like the imperfection in the paws. And shading. But the rest of it I'm kind of good with. My goal was to, as always, show the stark contrasts between Bolt's character and personality and Shock's. By this time everyone must be wondering (if there is an 'everyone' and said 'everyone' is even wondering anything) 'Is Shock going to look different in every picture?' And the answer is...I dunno. I'd like to say for certain, NO! This is my final draft of ol' Shocker. But the truth is, we both know I could hate it tomorrow. Anyhow, here it is. Dedicated to my good buddy, AgentJayHawk. I know how much you love Bolt! Expect the next chapter of Shocking up soon!
