Description
Dark Ages Log Boat
This log boat, made from a single trunk of oak, has been carbon dated to 485 CE, a period known as the "dark ages" because of the lack of written records. It was found on the banks of the River Tay in Scotland, UK, and is now in the McManus Gallery in Dundee.
At a time when much of Britain was covered in forest and there were few usable roads, the rivers were by far the easiest means of long distance transport. This boat is 8.8 metres long (28.8 feet).
For the outside of the building see
Camera, Lumix LX7. Processed with Photoshop Elements. Constructive criticism welcome.
