Ah, Cheese Sandwich, what a perfect character, and what a perfect characterisation by Weird Al!
I'll admit, when I first read the synopsis for this episode, I wasn't looking all that forward to it. Mainly because Pinkie really isn't one of my favourite ponies (I find some of her habits slightly annoying at times) and the thought of there being practically two of her well... I just wasn't all that mad at roughly 22 minutes worth of it, that and there was the fact that I'd never actually heard of Weird Al, let alone listened to any of his music. I really wasn't expecting that much...
Well Ladies and Gentlemen, how wrong I was! This episode was just perfect, and I'm saying that both from an animators point of view and a fans point of view. New personal favourite episode for me, right here!
I actually kind of envy the animators who got to work on the 'Goof Off' sequence. That must have been so fun to put together!

I know it's annoying when people make a big deal out of not having heard something, but... never having heard Weird Al? I'm so sorry.
Okay, now that THAT's out of the way. I'm glad you liked the episode. Even if you don't decided to checkout Weird Al, you've basically learned everything you need to know about him from that episode. Cheese Sandwich was just Weird Al ponified.Β

Weird Al's music used to be all I listened to years back. I love his songs! They are so funny. When I heard he was going to be voicing in MLP I lost it. I mean, seriously? He fit so perfectly in. I mean he already has a pretty cartoony voice to begin with.

Al has done the occasional voice acting before. But what I think really helps him is he performs so many different genres and styles, both with his parodies and original songs. He has more voice range that you would expect. We saw some of that as he switched from "old west gunfighter" to his more regular wackiness.

It was a really fun episode. Β I didn't expect it to be as enjoyable as it was though! I'll have to rewatch it. Β Also, they managed to stick in the same number of songs in this episode as they did in the Season 3 finale, which was also surprising!

eeyup, I think the main reason it works better is because here the songs make more sense. That, and they're also more quicker paced than those in Magic Mystery Cure.
