The town levies had heard of the monster approaching, and had grabbed the spears to keep the it away.Β They were trained for vs goblins, ogres, and similar large monsters.Β They knew their responsibility was to place their bodies between the enemy and the other non-combatant women of the town.
But this was the first time they had faced a tentacle creature.Β For the female defenders of the town, it was going to be the worst (or best?) day they ever had.Β But they would keep it from bothering the civilians.
After the battle some would suspect they kept it contained out of duty, but a few private comments were that the monster was kept prisoner, for when the guards were bored.
