Description This, like his companion piece Flidias, has already been downloaded here on DA, but I am posting it again without my big head crammed in behind it...it along with it's fairer half hang as a set in the below mentioned exhibit...

This like many of the pieces I've downloaded to DA in the past few hours is among those pieces on display in mine and gallery show:

The Carnival of Souls

This exhibit is now up at the Yellow Springs Arts Council Gallery in Yellow Springs Ohio, USA. It runs from August 17th up to September 16th. We shall both be at the gallery every Saturday and Sunday from 1-4PM... for any one interested.

I love the horns!! Pumpkin stems?

I also love the mushrooms and the leather(?) leaves. Real or even silk leaves would have made this look too delicate. I was a little off-put by the inclusion of shells when everything else is forest-related but I think they actually add a touch of mystery. How far does the influence of Cernunnos reach?

The shells are coastal woodland snail shells, that's one reason they are there, the other is that they are SPIRALS and that symbol is significant to many cultures and especially Celtic ones and I sneak them in to a lot of my pieces. No one seems to know their land based shelled animals very well- others have commented thusly. If you look back at many of my Seasons of the Dreaming Tree pieces and the Dreaming Tree piece itself, you will see these snail shells- not sea shells- on most of them...all but two.

The horns are indeed pumpkin handles- well spotted and identified. I LOVE pumpkin handles and had collected a lot of them knowing that they had to be used in my work somehow...then this idea cam along! The leaves are actually both leather...AND real ones. Those are oak leaves that have been preserved by means of a wicking process using glycerin- I didn't do it myself on these, but I know how to...

Cernunos is really a manifestation or aspect of the Green Man or a forest god, so...his realm is potentially everywhere.

 I hate this computer! It ate my post because it can't handle .png files... which a lot of the ads on here are.

I did at first think they were sea shells but, as I looked through more of your pieces and saw them show up again and again, I realized that they were snail shells. I considered going back and correcting myself, but I opted to plead my case here instead.

Which leaves are real? The green ones? The yellow/orange ones look too thick. So the preserved leaves, are they still supple? I would assume you wouldn't use them if they weren't...

ALL the leaves are real! They are on leather that I cut to glue them on and mimic their respective outlines- perhaps that is what is throwing you off... But yes, the glycerin wicking process leaves- - them more or less fairly supple.

Yes! Yes it is! The leaves all looked too thick to be real leaves. I understand it now.

Thank you- I thought that of all the people I know here you would appreciate that the most. It was like composing a symphony putting all these elements together for this piece.
