Thanks Saim, I like how it turned out too A more specific mood and story to tell, was a pleasure to use Sascha's texture to communicate it

wow, looks magical. Nice job Did you use a filter or was a small aperture and low iso enough for the long exposure?

boldfrontiers In reply to SonnyStitt [2014-01-22 23:15:34 +0000 UTC]

Thank you Steve I used to neutral density filter to prolong the exposure and HDR processing to reveal more subtle variations in the tones. The orange glow is a texture blend from friend & stock contributor Sascha / Sirius-sdz

You're welcome What equippment do you use? I'd like to get into landscape photography but I don't have a proper lens nor much knowledge yet

boldfrontiers In reply to SonnyStitt [2014-01-23 00:20:20 +0000 UTC]

I think most slr bodies will do, preferably with the ability to auto-bracket your photos with multiple exposures. Useful in case one day you want to get into HDR even if you don't plan to process them for HDR any time soon (you'll still have the files for as long as you keep them). The auto-bracketing is also good in case the camera meter fools you because there are a lot of whites in waterfalls... so with multiple exposures you increase your chances of getting the right one.

Other than, need a tripod for long exposures & I use the 24-105mm "walkaround" lens. Mentioned the neutral density filter already, not much else beyond that. You can use a cable shutter release on the camera to make sure it doesn't shake from the moment you press the shutter, but you can just as well set the 2 second timer in-camera.

You got some great animal photos by the way Used to love capturing them, but ever since I upgraded my camera a couple years ago my old telephoto lens no longer meets my quality standards. Hoping one day to buy one of those white lenses, but it's expensive!

thanks Sascha With many of your textures I started noticing and very much appreciate the special care you put into lighting variations. Perfect to use for glowing effects in blends like these as I feel it tends to draw in the eye in to the subject of interest.

i think this is one of the features that i love to put into my texture. playing with gradients and light/shadow also creates a depth that helps me create more than just a texture layer, abstract art i think.
it's wonderful that it's also usable as a layer sometimes, so i like to add this.
