Description Once again, we have a resource for those people who love the Artpens in Artrage (including those who want to use Artrage for anime or manga style art).

This second palette I am uploading for Artrage users is for a Prismacolor-style spectrum of colours. (There is a previous one for a Copic style set located here: [link] .)

How to Set It Up:

1. First download the zip file by clicking on download above.

2. Next, unzip the contents (the two .col files) in the zip file into C:/Program Files/Ambient Design/ArtRage 2/Resources/Colors

3. Lastly, start up Artrage - and activate the Color Sample Panel.

4. Click on the arrow and "Load Colors". It should open to the Colors folder where you can see the Prismacolor sample palette you just downloaded.

5. Select on prismacolor-markers.col and click on "Open" and you are ready to go.

Drop me a line and let me know if they come in handy.

Happy painting!

You don't need the arrow. You just need to bring up the "Load Colors" option.

Odd. But sometimes, archive files like .zip don't download properly. Try again and let me know if the problem happens again. If it doesn't, then I'll email the .col files to you as an attachment.

Glad to be of assistance. At very least, both the Prismacolour and Copic palettes allow you to organize your colours somewhat. So, they do seem to be a useful tool.

Oh I love them, they are so helpful! <3

*As with the copic pack*

However, which settings should I have the marker pen at to get the *markery look* and on what sort of paper does it look best, do you know? =3

bolsterstone In reply to Silver-Aura [2008-08-16 21:01:38 +0000 UTC]

Oops. One more thing - for seemless blending, use the Palette Knife switched to "soft". *Whew!*

bolsterstone In reply to Silver-Aura [2008-08-16 19:48:32 +0000 UTC]

It depends. I'll break my tips into chunks - because even with emulating Copics and Prismacolours, there are quite a few tricks and methods for varying the effects.

The Dry Overlap Effect
If you want the dry marker line-overlap effects then turn the "Art Marker" setting off. This is where you can run the marker on top of itself and increase the darkness (or amount of pigment on the paper) whenever the pen crosses on top of previously drawn areas. This is reminiscent of my Copics or Touch markers after they've been put through their paces a bit.

(As for putting the "Art Marker" on, it gives you a feel more akin to what I used to call paint pens. Big solid lines with little to no edging effects. They are still blendable though. Try it both on and off - and see how it feels. I switch back and forth for corresponding effects.)

The Colourless Blending Effect
To get colourless blender or solvent-based blending effect, up the Wetness to 100% and run a lighter colour across a dark colour. (This is best of course if you use a white background on the page. If you are going with a different coloured background then adjust the "blender" accordingly.)

Inking Pens - Multiliner Effects - Brush Pens
If you want a brush-pen like effect, similar to what you see with Copic Multiliners or Staedler Brush Pens, try the following settings. Turn Art Pen On. Drop pressure to 30%. Up the Softness and Wetness to 100%. Bingo, you get a pressure sensitive inker. (Reminds me of working with brushes for inking.)

Inking Pens - Multiliner Effects - Technical Pens
For the standard Micron Pigma effect or Copic Multiliner, however, turn Artpen On and drop the Softness. Put it at 0% if you want an unwavering line or put it slightly higher if you do want some pressure feedback. Put the Wetness to 100% and the Pressure to 100%.

Papers
This is a matter of personal taste. How much of the texture do you want to show in your final work? A fine paper setting is usually great for most anime work. But I'd also suggest you experiment with the Roughness side of things (when you start a new project). The basic paper is good enough for most of your work -- but if you are going to post your work on newsgroups then you might find it easier to just turn the Roughness all the way to 0%.

Gee maybe it's time for me to put this in another tutorial.

WOW. This is so awesome! Helps so much. <3

Definitely deserves tutorial recognition. Perhaps stick it in the forums with your marker palettes? Thank you so much!

bolsterstone In reply to OldManGib [2008-08-13 04:31:40 +0000 UTC]

Haha! Only works for Artrage sadly (but it's a cheap enough program). I could however do a similar palette for Photoshop if there is enough demand.

It's okay! I already TOO MANY colours to choose from!

I miss the Prismacolours pencils days. It was simpler then. You did a bw drawing, coloured a couple of photocopies with the pencils and showed the client. These days....
