This is awesome, I'm going to redraw over it to make a more modern version of Republic City for my Hikar fan project

Whats wrong with the last three minutes, are you homophobic? I am a straight man and loved that Korra and Asami hooked up!Β

This map was posted in July, 2012. The series finale didn't air until December, 2014.
Boomerang would be referring to the first season finale.

Could use this map as reference for a fanon project that I am working on.
Particularly when I start doing my "Azula Asylum/Island" and "Azula City" concepts.

An old concept that I've shelves for the moment.
To put it simply, it's an AU where Azula is alive by Korra's time,
was cured of her insanity, and founded a mental institution within Republic City.
It is EXACTLY what you think it is.

It's based on the maps you see in the show! Made entirely by myself from off-screen sources!

This is absolutely fabulous!
(Just so you know, I used this as a reference for the RC map for rp website Hou Tian [link] ) I gave you a shout out in the artist comments, and you'll also receive one on the website proper [link] once it's up!
Cheers! :]

Oh hey, thank you kindly!
If you'd like to use the original map (I can send you a version with an empty key and no markers) you'd be welcome to use that too! Just drop me a note with where to send it and I'll pop it across :3

(Also, didn't realise said group was Republic City! I tried submitting this as a resource way back when! If you wanna do that that'd be awesome!)

It looks like NYC almost, but if you head towards N NE probably you'll run towards BaSingSe.

Not without getting a little wet first!
It does look a little like NYC! I referenced maps of 1920s New York for this because it was one of the inspirations for the show runners.

Like ~Battlefield-Blog said - the show's producers were inspired heavily by 1920s New York! In fact, I used archive maps of NYC from the twenties as inspiration!

It wasn't just New York they used, also Vancouver, Hong Kong, and Interwar Shanghai. Interestingly enough, when they invaded China in the 30's, the Japanese did a few bombing raids on Shanghai, just as the Equalists bombarded Republic City.

Oh you're certainly right there, I was just talking in terms of the landmasses! The makeup of the entire bay area, right down to the weathered bronze statue of Avatar Aang, draws a lot from New York wouldn't you say?

BenjaminHopkins In reply to boomerangmouth [2012-07-05 23:20:51 +0000 UTC]
Yes. It's supposed to be east-meets-west, but in some ways, is largely American-influenced.

boomerangmouth In reply to BenjaminHopkins [2012-07-07 08:06:39 +0000 UTC]
Agreed, but only as far as the way modern technology is mostly American-invented!

BenjaminHopkins In reply to boomerangmouth [2012-07-07 19:14:47 +0000 UTC]
Well, yes. From what I've gathered (and this is largely off-topic), the technology in LoK is mostly steampunk/dieselpunk. The cars are gas-powered, while the streetcars and el train run on electricity.

Yeah, and all of it firmly rooted in the Avatar world! An internal fire-bending engine if you will! xD

Not saying you didn't, just saying I enjoy how they've not just transplanted real world stuff into the setting without making sure it fits!
