Description
After the marriage of her only child Ellie, widower and gardener Amanda Docter feels completely free for the first time on her life. It's her one opportunity to build the underground haven she's been planning out her hole life and she doesn't hesitate to grab it, selecting only her best shovels (and sticks of dynamite) to explore the catacombs beneath her old house. However, as she digs deeper, she encounters all sorts of strange things such as a rare seed, talking garden gnomes and the reanimated body of her dead husband who was a grumpy living being and has become a less than pleasant dead one (or something along those lines XD)

This is my piece for the contest "Extras" based on a lovely relative of Ellie who appears on this screencap from UP: i0.wp.com/caps.pictures/200/9-… . I was completely lost at first on this contest, jumping from movie to movie, only really interested on the extras who had a little too much screen time or a spoken name dropped here and there, thus not being eligible for this contest. I think this must have been my longest binge watch of Disney movies, because I rewatched Big Hero 6, Lilo and Stitch, The Emperor's New Groove, Enchanted, Ella Enchanted, Monster's University and Frankenweenie on their entirety before settling on this character from UP who appears just at the beginning of the movie. Though after I watched the wedding scene more carefully I had the urge to draw every single family member there, but this lady stood out for being practically made for this contest, as she scores without trying too hard, all the extra points of the contest.
The idea here is to contrast this poster from the original movie: bioskop24.biz/wp-content/uploa… , so I tried to assure they were opposites in every aspect. While Mr. Fredricksen has an adventure up in the sky, a big frown on his face, serious clothing and blue and white as background, Mrs. Docter here is immersed by the brown rocks underground and could be happier or more colorfully dressed. The same goes for her story and movie synopsis, which, of course, couldn't be called anything but "Down". I wasn't able finish the piece as well I wanted because of the deadline (and god knows it took me forever to draw all those flowers on her dress... I have a love-hate relationship with patterns, I really do), so, yeah, I'm well aware there's no shading and the whole thing's a bit shabby, but I'll be sure to edit it with the finished version after the contest ends, just to be fair o/
And last but not least a fun fact: the name Amanda Docter comes from the real life mother of Elie Docter, the girl who voiced young Ellie in the movie :v
