This piece is excellent in a number of aspects, and has no major shortcomings. 5 stars overall! Excellent!
Beginning with the "Pros", The initial impact of this piece is one of contrast. Before even noticing the transition of the character, the eye pics up on darker form against the white plaster background. When the background changes to a red brick, the color of the object changes from a reddish brown to a steel gray, keeping strong contrast between the coloration of object and background. this definitely helps the work, and aids in the thematic transition from one part to the next.
The themes of this piece work well together, with the mathematic elements of music and mechanics being showcased, while still maintaining the spiritual and emotional sides of music. This is supplemented by the "Peace" flag dangling from the cello/bass/stringed instrument. The time-shift is also worthy of note, with what seems to be a motorcycle being ridden or perhaps even becoming a knight of a medieval era. While this is not the first time-shift to be used in art, it is a particularly original take on it, and it is very well executed. These themes are drawn together by a number of elements, such as the red highlights throughout the piece, as well as the ribs on both the engine and the neck of the stringed instrument. Overall, a very cohesive piece.
The quality of this painting speaks for itself. The textures on the armor stand out as particularly well done, and the chrome on the engine is very artfully rendered, but again, not much needs to be said here. it speaks for itself.
The positioning of the knight and the use of a lance to play an instrument both are very creative ways of telling the emotion behind this piece. The texture on the helmet is rusted, and gives an air of experience or age. The idea behind this painting is very powerful. It would receive 5 stars for impact, except for a few compositional issues that conflict with the work. The only "Cons" I have for this piece disrupt what I feel is a very powerful work. The red flowers, and indeed the grass itself have been nagging me. The organic life and springtime virility of this work are jarring in comparison to the worn feel of the knight and the background. Perhaps I am simply missing the message behind them, but I just don't see what they do for the piece.
With the possible exception of the grass and flowers, this is a magnificent work of art. The action and motion of the central object is incredibly well done, and the textures and feels of the painting are also astounding. Top it off with the time-shift, throw in a pinch of mathematics in music and mechanics, and you have created one of my favorite works on Deviant Art. Well done!

It's truly breathtaking the way you juxtaposed the different stages of human development - natural romanticism, middle age technology, and modern era technology in this crisp and articulately painted abstract masterpiece. There's something truly unique in this, and I want this on my wall

Amazing piece, love the colours.
To me it looks like he is clinging desperately to the instrument as a dying lover, very emotive.

Wow, what a composition. A seamless transition between the old and the new. Is he fighting for peace? I really like the detail of the armor, it really grabs my attention. And of course the gas-powered brass instrument. I do think his head is positioned a little weird for someone wearing armor though, and his left hand seems a bit unnatural too. But details, details...
