oil on canvas, 42x32cmThe painting was inspired by Kevin Carden's Photoshop illustration "Terrified of the Pumpkin Goop" that is a little girl entering into a huge pumpkin. I felt I could give a nicer twist to the story, and make my children couple carve the pumpkin into a huge Halloween jack-o'-lantern.
The size of the pumpkin ain't unrealistic, the record weight of a pumpkin is 2,624 pounds, that is 1190kg..not sure about the seeds size.
The jack-o’-lantern has a long history with Halloween, although our favorite demonic faces haven’t always been carved out of pumpkins.
Their origin comes from an Irish myth about Stingy Jack, who tricked the Devil for his own monetary gain. When Jack died, God didn’t allow him into heaven, and the Devil didn’t let him into hell, so Jack was sentenced to roam the earth for eternity. In Ireland, people started to carve demonic faces out of turnips to frighten away Jack’s wandering soul.

It reminds me of Hieronymus Bosch's Garden of Earthly Delights where people hide themselves in such globes to commit their sins. Though these globes are not pumpkins.

Although the actual size is technically realistic, most pumpkins when they get to such enormous sized become way less round. Look up "world's largest pumpkin" on Bing's image search, and instead of giant bumpy balls, you'll find pics of massive blobs.
I'm also not sure about the seeds.

An excellent painting. The bright central colors brings your focus to the children, and the cool outer colors allow the eyes to wander afterwards and see the view beyond. Very well put together (I would've had that statement as a critique, but they insist on 33 words or less).

Their faces are phenomenal, completely realistic and believable! Proportionally their bodies are small but that's fine, they don't look out of place at all rather the opposite. ALso nice work using the boy's shirt to better convince the viewer of the depth of the hollowed jack-o'-lantern.
