"Notice to all interested travelers: Bast Castle is not open to the general public and only those who have received personal invitations from it's owner are allowed to even land there. It presently is ranked among the top five most heavily defended private residences in the known Galaxy with the infamous Five-Hundred-and-First Legion standing vigil over the castle. In summary, if you want to try and break into the home of Darth Vader, it's your funeral." - Excerpt from 'Mungo Baobab's Guide to the Galaxy'

Bast Castle, the private residence of Darth Vader, has long loomed over the acidic surface of Vjun. However its history goes back even further before the Empire or even the Clone Wars. Vjun has had only one permanent settlement throughout it's history, in a shoreline settlement under the rule of Viscount Malereaux. However the Viscount, in his madness, performed heinous experiments on the population which drove them all to kill one another. The last of House Malreaux was Whie Malreaux, a Padawan of the Jedi Order that was later killed during Operation Knightfall in 19 BBY. With Whie dead and the Malreaux line ended, the dead ruins around Chateau Malreaux were vacant and ownerless. Darth Vader would then use his authority to seize the land, having Chataeu Malreaux and the surrounding area leveled and a new palace constructed in its place.

After three years of construction, Bast Castle was finally complete and Vader moved into the castle. It was a secret location, intended to give him a place he could retreat to in order to relax and meditate while not serving the Empire. It also had an even more secret purpose. The facility was designed to act as a place for Vader to store his private and most personal of treasures. Treasures he wasn't meant to possess as Vader as they were items once belonging to Anakin Skywalker, his former persona. His motives for keeping these treasures remain unknown, although it's theorized that he kept them for the purpose of reminding him of his failures as a Jedi or of his humble origins as a slave on Tatooine. Vader stored all these items within an area accessible only to himself, an area referred to as the Sanctum. He appointed an old Republic tactical analysis droid turned Imperial inventory droid known as AP-5 to catalogue and organize the Dark Lord's collection. Vader would periodically come here to meditate and refine his skills with a lightsaber. He had a second, more well known castle built on Mustafar that was later destroyed not long after the Battle of Endor and was used, if nothing else, but as a facility to torture and turn Jedi to the Dark Side...or else to execute them. Bast Castle though remained the closest thing to a private residence and even outshone his public residence on Coruscant in terms of accomodations.

In 4 ABY, Vader was deemed MIA by the Empire after the Battle of Endor, believed to have been captured by the Rebellion. With Vader "Captured" and all other recognized superior officers dead, Bast Castle became the unofficial headquarters and rallying point for Vader's Death Squadron and the 501st Legion to await news of Vader's status. After a year of waiting, and after the Liberation of Coruscant, "Vader" finally returned to Vjun. "Vader," now the redeemed Anakin Skywalker, proceeded to lead his forces to Jakku, obstensively to join up with the rest of the Imperial Remnant forces under Ysanne Isard and Warlord Zsinj but in truth, Anakin had arranged for a mass defection of the 501st forces mid-battle. The confusion led to the Empire's complete defeat at the Battle of Jakku. Bast Castle would later become the more permanent headquarters for the Republic aligned 501st Legion and its fleets. Anakin was loathe to set foot into Bast Castle for several years, instead the castle was left lightly defended as the Legion was away. Eventually though he decided to continue using Vjun and arranged for a good portion of the castle to undergo renovation and expansion into the surrounding canyon areas.

The renovation was still ongoing by 14 ABY when the Disciples of Ragnos managed to defeat the 501sts stationed at the Castle with the aid of the Imperial Remnant, but were later driven away by Jedi Master Kyle Katarn and his apprentice Jaden Korr whose actions in the castle proved him ready for the title of Jedi Knight. It also helped to highlight some of the Castle's defensive weaknesses and led to a revision of the existing renovation plans. The renovations were still on going as of 22 ABY. During this time, the 501st's forces were engaged in helping the New Republic and the Jedi with missions of mercy across the galaxy, leaving Bast Castle lightly defended. This allowed a confidence trickster and self-proclaimed "Emperor's Mage" named Orloc and a team of mercenaries in his employ to infiltrate the castle in a bid to plunder the castle of Skywalker's various treasures. However, at the same time, Jedi Masters Tionne Solusar and Ikrit along with padawans Anakin Solo and Tahiri Velia and the droid R2-D2 had arrived to recover the lightsaber of Obi-Wan Kenobi with Lord Skywalker's permission and blessing and at Grand Master Luke Skywalker's request. Although the Jedi managed to defeat most of Orloc's henchmen, Orloc very nearly escaped had it not been for Anakin Skywalker's arrival along with the majority of the 501st, having sensed his grandson in danger (and having received a distress signal from R2). Orloc's men were killed and Orloc lost both his arms to Lord Skywalker's lightsaber before being hauled away to the castle dungeons where he's said to remain even into the Shadow Wars of 28 ABY. Ever since Orloc's infiltration, the 501st Legion has maintained a garrison within the castle.

By 28 ABY, the renovations had been complete and is considered the headquarters of the 501st Legion. In 29 ABY, during the Shadow Wars, Bast Castle was attacked by a small team of Bounty Hunters employed by Tyber Zann and led by former Sith Assassin Darth Maul. Maul's objective was to recover the lightsaber Anakin had used as Darth Vader, the saber being stored within Anakin's private Sanctum. Despite the best efforts of the 501st Legion, Maul and his associates managed to escape with the lightsaber despite Anakin's efforts to stop them. Bast Castle security has subsequently been bolstered.

Since the renovation, Bast Castle is a nigh-impenetrable fortress. The castle is guarded around the clock by at least a battalion of 501st Stormtroopers and two Star Destroyers' worth of TIE Fighters of assorted models. The base is equipped with two deflector shield emitters with buried power generators to protect the base from any orbital bombardments. The base is also equipped with both an ion cannon and hypervelocity gun to repel any orbital attackers. The only land access on the surface is via a series of canyons leading towards the castle but these canyons are tightly guarded and the planet is known for having an acidic rainfall that harms the exposed skin of most organics. There was once a beachhead on one side but the beach was paved over and a large hangar facility built in for TIE Fighters constructed atop it. There are two "public" hangar facilities, the beach-head and the canyon hangar where cargo and passenger transports are directed. The canyon hangar is also flush with the floor of one of the canyons and some of the walker patrol units are typically deployed from this hangar. There is also a garage where most of the walkers, including a pair of AT-ATs and an AT-ACT are kept for patrols and defense. There is also plenty of room for guests and visitors within the Castle although such invited guests are exceedingly rare.

The Sanctum and upper levels of the castle are strictly off limits to everyone except for Anakin and a few select individuals such as his family members. Castle security forces are only allowed in if the alarm is raised accordingly. The upper levels, known as the Upper Sanctum, houses Anakin's more personal residence including three separate great halls, one of which housing a toppled statue of Vader (shown above), a sparring room complete with training droids, a droid workshop for Anakin to tinker in, a private bacta tank and medical ward with replacements of his cybernetics, a private hangar facility where his privately owned starfighers (including one of his TIE Advanced x1s) are kept, two private balconies/landing platforms, a lightsaber workshop, a private library of copied Jedi and Sith lore and artifacts, and one of his meditation chambers.

The Sanctum on the lower levels are divided into two sections, the Outer Sanctum and the Inner Sanctum. The Outer Sanctum is more akin to a museum and houses many of Anakin's more personal treasures. All of which are protected by ray shields that can be activated in an emergency. The Sanctum curator is AP-5, a former Republic strategic analysis turned Imperial Inventory Droid. Some of the items within the sanctum include...
Anakin's Padawan Braid (Ritualistically cut in 22 BBY during the Clone Wars)
The Japor Snippet necklace made by Anakin and given to his then future wife Padme Amidala in 32 BBY

The Inner Sanctum, accessible via the Outer Sanctum, has a more personal purpose in that it has been designed to act as a tomb for various individuals. The Inner Sanctum is divided into three separate "crypts" joined together by an antechamber connected to the Outer Sanctum. A recording of an ancient Jedi Funerary Requiem is piped into the Inner Sanctum via a series of audio emitters hidden in the sconces.

The first crypt is the Lars family crypt, with the remains of Clegg, Owen, and Beru Lars kept within three separate grave vaults with their individual portraits hung above their graves. At the back of the Lars Crypt though is the most elaborate grave. The grave of Shmi Skywalker, Anakin's mother. Shmi rests within a regally adorned sarcophagus with a relief sculpture of her resting form carved into the lid and a reproduction of a famous relief carving known as "The Everlasting Mother" carved into the sides of the sarcophagus. Shmi's crypt is a round cathedral-like chamber made of bricks made of mud from Tatooine and featuring artistic depictions representing different periods of Shmi's life, from Anakin's birth in 41 BBY, their life together as slaves to Watto, Anakin's emancipation by Qui-Gon Jinn in 32 BBY, Shmi's emancipation and marriage to Clegg Lars in 27 BBY, and finally her passing away in Anakin's arms after being tortured to death by Tusken Raiders in 22 BBY. The entire Lars crypt, including Shmi's burial chamber is illuminated with primitive flame torches and wax funerary candles. A hidden compartment in the floor outside the crypt houses a series of fire suppression probe droids that can react should a fire breakout within the crypt. When first shown the crypt of Shmi Skywalker, Anakin's apprentice, Kento Marek first mused it to be quite touching for the Lady Skywalker. She lived most her life as a slave, only to die a meager moisture farmer, and yet receive a crypt fit for a Queen. It is a sentiment often expressed by some who visit the Inner Sanctum.

The second crypt, known as the Tomb of Light, was originally designed for Anakin's wife, the late Padme Amidala who presently is still entombed on Naboo. Anakin had a sarcophagus prepared for her when he heard reports of grave robbers pillaging some of the tombs of Naboo's past monarchs and had plans to have her body exhumed and relocated to Vjun should it be placed in danger but the robbers never touched Padme's tomb and Anakin has since helped to finance the formation of the Royal Naboo Honor Guard, a division of the Naboo Royal Guard assigned to protect the tombs of the deceased Kings and Queens of Naboo. Padme's crypt in Bast Castle includes a statue of Padme, placed at the head of the empty sarcophagus and designed to make her resemble an angel. As the sarcophagus is empty, the lid presently rests off to the side on a repulsor cart. The crypt is adorned with clean white marble walls and columns with a small reflecting pool at the foot of Padme's sarcophagus. The crypt originally housed the torn cloak and robes worn by Obi-Wan Kenobi at the time of his death in Year Zero aboard the Death Star, but the return of Darth Maul prompted Anakin to move Obi Wan's remains to a more secure location within his Upper Sanctum to avoid their defilement. A bust sculpture of Obi-Wan is within this crypt behind the stone table that once housed Kenobi's robes. Kenobi's Lightsaber was stored in Anakin's Upper Sanctum prior to it being handed over to Kenobi's daughter Talzin Kenobi in 29 ABY. Also within the Tomb of the Light is the lightsaber of Qui-Gon Jinn, the Jedi responsible for freeing and bringing Anakin into the Jedi Order in 32 BBY. Like Obi-Wan's, a bust of Qui-Gon sits behind a pedestal where Qui-Gon's lightsaber rests. The Tomb of Light is presently undergoing an expansion to include a memorial to all the Jedi killed during Order 66, Operation Knightfall, and the Great Jedi Purge as Anakin has meticulously kept, collected, or attempted to recover the lightsabers of these fallen Jedi to be placed on display within the tomb.

The third crypt, known as the Tomb of the Fallen, doesn't house any bodies either but does contain some of the relics of Anakin's time as Darth Vader as well as a few other Sith oriented relics. Within the Tomb of the Fallen are the clothes, cybernetics, and lightsaber of Ashla Tano, formerly the Dark Lord Darth Vandal, and Ahsoka Tano/Darth Akul's younger sister and apprentice. Ashla was mortally wounded and died during the Battle of Thule in 28 ABY but was redeemed in her final moments by Anakin's show of mercy and compassion. Also within the tomb are the burned and warped remains of Anakin's original Darth Vader armor. His Vader saber originally rested here with his armor but was stolen by Darth Maul. Also within the Tomb of the Fallen is a highly valuable and coveted item for the Sith. Hidden behind a fake wall at the back of the Tomb of the Fallen is a simple dark round chamber without any decoration save for smooth black walls and a single pedestal holding one of the electrum finished lightsabers of Darth Sideous, aka Emperor Palpatine. One of a pair, the other one of Palpatine's lightsabers was considered missing until 29 ABY when it was discovered to be carried by Darth Akul who had modified and uses it as a shoto blade. Security around Sideous's lightsaber is especially high and only a force user aware of the hidden switches to open the door can access them. The door is made of thick durasteel and magnetically sealed for additional security.

I have a special place in my heart for Jedi Academy. It was the first time I ever joined a clan in a multiplayer game. JA had a great online base. I still remember some of my old friends from the "Free Saber Alliance (We were a dueling clan)." Good bunch of guys and girls.

One of the things I love about the game is that you could make your own character.
