Its a film grain effect, I set it low and with low highlights and then usually scale it back a bit with fade, so it doesn't lighten the image too much.
Then ill throw a blur on it, fade that back, then sharpen, then another low-impact grain.
Its not just one filter but many.
Grateful you like the work, man thank you!

Yay! Your graphic novel is starting to come together now! This has a sort of X files feel to it! It's nice to see your still working on it! Seem like a few people are working on graphic novels at the moment such as nebezial's Ravine. Even I'm working on one as well! It won't be for a few years yet though!
So do you know how many books this will be set across, or roughly how long it will be before you publish this?
Thanks for sharing!

Hey dude!
You know I'm still kind of undecided as to how many issues its going to be or whether its going to be just one big, long book.
Right now I'm leaning towards one book.
You're pretty perceptive though; there is an X-Files angle to this in the sense that the main characters are Special Agents with the FBI.
The plan is to get either an Indiegogo or Kickstarter project going at the end of this year to get it funded, because that's the only way that this thing is going to happen; if I can get paid to make it and cover the publishing costs.
If that happens itll take me about 1 - 1.5 years to produce.
So yes, I'm still very much working on it. I think ive been chipping away at this idea/story for about 5 years now, off and on.
The master plan is to make this a full-time endeavor and position myself so I can continue to produce graphic novels independently in the future.
Thanks for your interest, dude - I appreciate it.
Best wishes,
Brad

Thanks for the reply! Ah! Yes, the lack of time is the curse of an artist! This actually sounds like a really exciting universe your creating here! I didn't realise you have been working on it for around 5 years! You've inspired me to work some more on my own one, which can be seen here if your interested:

Very well done. You have really begin to master the loose placement of highlights and value changes so that the image has movement and life. This then causes the image to take on a stylized realism that is so fun to look at. It draws the viewers into the painting and causes us to wonder about the world the image is set it. As always very well done Brad. I really do love looking at your work and I learn just a little bit more about painting every time I view one of your masterly crafted paintings. Thank you for all your hard work.
