Holy crap! You did this with pencils?? I worship your skills man! How do you do that!? How hard do you press when you're doing the shadings? Do you smudge??? Gah I love it!

Haha thanks! Yep, my drawings improved dramatically once I started using graded pencils. They allow you to add so much more depth to shadows and contours to really bring life and shape into a drawing. I do smudge a lot, especially for the backgrounds, I basically just draw squiggles and smudge them out with a blending tortillon. For other shadows, I'll make a gradient of shade and blend it out lightly. Depending on the area I might not press down much on the drawing, but I can get pretty aggressive in darker areas or with bolder lines to prevent gaps of white.

There is something about the way you use the shades. They don't mix and mangle, rather complement each other with their slight degrees in difference. It's truly amazing.
