Description Return of the Little Pied Cormorant who I photo'd six months ago.  Am pretty sure this is the same familiar (insert preferred gender or non-gender) because he's the only bird of his species I've ever seen on this beach, and he always has some preening fluff on his bill.

Thank you. Actually I took another photo today, at the bay near where I live - and another of them turned up in the shot. It looks like the same bird, which would mean he roams up and down the river quite a ways - but the focus wasn't good enough for me to be sure.

You have captured this shot so beautifully. I love it's colors. You were lucky to get this one. Is it the only image you have of this bird?

Thanks so much. No - well, I have heaps of shots from that session, which i could post if you like, though a lot are quite similar. I do have some photos in my gallery taken at the same location last six or seven months earlier, which I think are of the same bird. Not quite as good a lens, though.

WOW this has to be one of the best shots of these birds. I have never seen one this color. What an incredible looking shot. I love it!

Thanks very much. I do have more from that session, though I was only going to put up more if they were different in some way.

Thanks. I will get to it. I'm just trying to keep my new entries varied, but I've put a couple aside which might be suitable.

Cute photo, we call them Little Shags in NZ.  This one is a juvenile, it's white belly will turn black leaving only a white face once adult.

I think the NZ bird is a different subspecies or form. From what I've read, most of the NZ birds are of this black chested type. I'm pretty sure this isn't a juvenile, because in the Australuan variety the white only extends above the eyes in adults.

They are the same species, and you are right by saying the white only extends above the eyes in adults.

Here is a link to a bird website,  look at the part were it says other names.
