Leveling up BRIGHT from Level 1 to Level 2
Draw or write your cat’s frustration or excitement about their power.
Any thought she had about being careful and staying safe fizzled away as soon as the flame came to life. The glowing ember emanating from Damon’s paw emitted a warmth that enveloped Bright’s entire being. Her eyes soaked up all the light that small spark had to offer like a sponge, mirroring the brilliance of the fire. She was probably staring for a bit too long, but she couldn’t help herself. A switch inside her had gone off. She felt like she was in the right place at the right time. In that moment, Bright was inspired to do the crazy, the unthinkable. She lifted a single paw and reached up slowly to touch the flame. She didn’t think about Damon’s warning. If he could hold the fire, then it was completely possible she could too. There was no uncertainty this time. Bright had never felt more sure.
She dipped her paw straight into the flame, letting it caress her rough pads and lick at her claws. It was warm but not uncomfortable as if she had been freezing all this time. The fire had found a home in her and she welcomed it with euphoria.
“Ah! I- I’m- RED!! I’M RED!!!” She gasped as she turned her paw over and held the flame on her own, shock mingling with excitement. Her fur resisted getting singed and her skin did not burn. Oh, what a feeling it was! She couldn’t read Damon’s face from around the glare of the fire she held. Was he excited too? She couldn’t tell. What if he wasn’t? Then she remembered, he didn’t share her excitement about their soul powers. She recalled when he had said the power was frightening. She must look insane right now. As her enthusiasm faltered, worried about what Damon would think of her, the flame began to die. It sputtered, clinging to a life she couldn’t provide before giving a final little pop, a sparkle- and it was gone.
Bright is ecstatic about her soul color! She grew up feeling weak and holding that flame made her feel powerful. She'll want to practice with others and really hone her skills, but she'll soon learn that when you play with fire, you get burnt.
