Yeah, you Hufflepuffs don't have it easy ... I think that's why JK tried to compensate for that giving you a Cedric Diggory, such beloved character and that embodies qualities that could very well have placed him in Gryffindor. I think that speaks very highly of Hufflepuffs, even if it goes unnoticed with all the care-bear stereotype.
Quidditch is a contact sport, brutal and dangerous, that's what makes it great (thank God they shot a "proper" Quidditch match for Half-Blood Prince... yep, that was Quidditch in all its glory. Pity you only get to see like 2 min of it ). As a rugby fan and occasional player I can relate it, and that's one of the reasons why I like both sports... but yes, the rules should be implemented and cards or equivalent penalties should be used.
The reputation for being a dark-wizard factory is something you get used to although as I said, it gets boring and predictable. Still, one of the things that really annoys me about the books anti-Slytherin bias is the fact that we are supposed to believe no students from Slytherin took part in the defence of Hogwarts... Not even one? Only Professor Slughorn? I understand many students would be afraid of fighting their own parents/families (since many of Voldemort's supporters were ex-Slytherin), but I find it so hard to believe that none decided to fight for their school, to help out their Ravenclaw friends (since JK mentions Ravens and Slyths got on pretty well) in the final battle???? Also, that Parkinson cow speaks up against Harry and suddenly they are ALL traitors???? COME ON!!! *shakes head in disbelief*
Funny you mention Dumbledore... I'm sure the Hat considered the possibility of sorting him into Slytherin, since Albus was very ambitious on top of everything else you point out. Also, Dumbledore is usually compared to the most popular and greatest wizard of all times - Merlin. Well, guess what? Merlin was a Slytherin...
Sorry for the long reply... I got carried away... I just love this topic...

You don´t have to apologise, I love to talk about these topics just as much and it´s hard enough to find someone else who does!
Yes, I´m glad we´ve got Cedric to symbolise true Hufflepuff qualities. Gryffindor? Naaaah. I think Gryffindor and Hufflepuff share some similarities (just like Slytherin and Ravenclaw, as you pointed out - I didn´t know J.K. said that about them getting along but it absolutely mirrors what I thought about the houses ), as Gryffindors are supposed to be chivalric (pretty hard to define though) and Hufflepuffs to be just and honest. But I also think we saw the differences with Cedric and Harry as champions. Gryffindors are more competetive (something they share with Slytherins), while Hufflepuffs, as you said, "play more for the sake of playing." Obviously that´s just highly hypothetical and completely unrealistic plilosophising, but I just love to analyse and compare the house qualities.
Damn it, I saw HBP some months ago but I don´t really remember the Quidditch scenes...probably because I was too focused on the Draco scenes. Yeah, I know Quidditch is supposed to be brutal, this is were I tend to side more with Hermione. That´s taste I guess, but nevertheless, I think sports should be fair, because otherwise it´s just a big brawl.
Yes, I was really annoyed by that too! I recently re-read DH and I was surprised not to see a single flash of loyalty towards Hogwarts in the Slytherin students. With the Sorting Hat singing that song about house unity in fifth year I really had expected all houses to stand up in the final fight. We already knew Pansy was a horrible cow but I can´t believe they all thought like her. I loved that moment at the end when the trio walked up to the headmaster´s office and Phileas Nigellus says something about Slytherin´s contribution to the victory. Awwww, that´s was so cute! But actually there would be no reason for him to say something like that...except for Slughorn and Snape, yeah. But it still sucks about the students.
Oh yeah, I forgot about the ambition, even more fitting for Dumbledore. I think Merlin having been a Slytherin is awesome - I guess he´s not seen as a dark wizard? And the parallels are obvious of course - Harry being a clueless Arthur. Now everytime I´ll watch the BBC Merlin series I´ll have to think of this. I bet Gandalf was a Slytherin too.
