My original story main character Gertrude from my story "THE OFfFERING"

Story synopsis

Gertrude lives in a world where old superstition rules out reason and mere local folklore threatens to claim her life. In the wake of recent plague-like events, she is chosen as one marked and on her way to be sacrificed, as a live offering, to a fabled water demon. Her own father, guiding the boat to take her to the Ceremonial Docks... And tagging along for the ride, is her former childhood friend Leyland, who seems to think now is the perfect time to reconcile. All that is left for Gertrude now is to seek the truth in superstition... To swim the murky waters alone...and live long enough to run away.

If you are curious to read it, here is the first part to get you started  The OFfERING- Part 1 By Briana Norman

I was on a boat gliding through the wetlands, waiting for the swamp to come into view. I rode standing on the edge of the deck trying to memorize the smells and sounds around me.
Mid afternoon sunlight glints off the water and washes everything in a warm bright orange glow.
The way we take goes through the Snake River.
I wonder to myself how this path will affect finding my way back and start to form a plan in my head…
I lean over the side, wondering absently why the water is oddly clearer than I’ve ever seen in.
It still offers little to no comfort…My heart picks up speed knowing I’ll be fully immersed in it soon enough.
I start to panic already, having trouble breathing even though my head and body, at this moment, are fully clear of the swamp water.
The cool air of the north wind beats past my face as we turn and head southeast.
Maybe I can make it to the marshlands and cut across like I did as a child?
I glance back at the serious faces around
