I will... some other time. I'm working on The Silmarillion for an exhibition I'm going to make in a few weeks with 2 friends, called "Miradas sobre Tolkien" (Views on Tolkien).

No fooling around this is quite possibly the best warrior/soldier pic Ive ever seen on deviant art. Its a wonderful picture, so very cool and the realism is staggering. Very well done! Love it!

Gorgeous pencils, the small curved details really make you think of the elvish culture.

Brilliant design here

Tulikoura [2011-07-11 11:36:22 +0000 UTC]

I like this design very much - it gives me an impression of a Norman armour which suits elven, and especially Silvan, warriors very well. Like mentioned, Howe's and Lee's influence can be seen . The armour looks practical and sturdy - bascinet with aventail, studded leather and chainmal under it, and axe as a weapon... I remember a part of Silmarillion where a host of Sindar axemen were mentioned to chase and attack an army of Orcs.

Some artists seems to like drawing pompous and unpractical, almost a parade-like armour to elves. It's nice to see "realistic" designs like this.

It's interesting how different artists separately come to very similar designs. This guy would fit into a game I'm doing concept art for very neatly.

Also - great rendering!

Awesome. I like the classic design of the armor, it doesnt get too much fantasy like unlike the LOTR movie elves.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BrokenMachine86 In reply to Durbed [2011-07-06 20:13:10 +0000 UTC]

That's what I like about the LOTR movies, the armor designs are functional and realistic, but also fantastic. I don't like 3 meters long swords and gigantic shoulder pads and excessive things like that, that are not functional at all.

PD: "like unlike"?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Durbed In reply to BrokenMachine86 [2011-07-07 01:54:53 +0000 UTC]

Still I like your style a lot more. I remember how in the books like Silmarillion tall and good looking humans were frequently confused with elves and viceversa, like their clothing styles werenΒ΄t so radically different as they are in the movies.

And there should be a comma after "like"

BrokenMachine86 In reply to Durbed [2011-07-07 03:59:11 +0000 UTC]

You like my style a lot more? Talking about excessive hehe . The works of Alan Lee and John Howe in the are my biggest source of inspiration for my fantasy artworks. But I know what are you talking about, still in cases like Turin, he was practically raised by elves, so he would have dressed like them, but I see your point.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Durbed In reply to BrokenMachine86 [2011-07-07 05:11:27 +0000 UTC]

I love Howe and Lees old illustrations but IΒ΄m not really sold on some of the concepts they created for the movie, specially regarding elves or dwarfs armors and clothes. The movie elves have sort of an oriental feel and their stylization is too D&D oriented. They should wear some distinctive armor and weapons but still something that could be carried by humans and fit their standards; remember how in the Silmarillion humans were constantly wearing stuff made by elves -and no, never mentioned curvy blades- without looking weird as they would look in the movies. ThatΒ΄s why I feel that your approaching is way closer to the original books.
