the colour gradients are just made using a large brush with soft edges (like a 300 or 400) on a new layer just loosley brush ouver the areas you want to colour and then apply layer effects. for the hat on PNKHAT i used overlay and for this one I used screen, but just play around with the different ones until your happy. then I usually just use the eraser (again with a large ish brush and soft edges) to remove bits i dont want

I just pissed around with some random brushes and the clone tool, speak to me on msn if you want it explained better but im sure with your ps skills you can figure it out
