Description The idea that a creature can be born bearing the incomplete body of its twin is undoubtedly ominous and yet fascinating at the same time. I created this piece entitled, β€œParasite” as a representation of parasitic twins while still in the womb, and the biological competition that accompanies them.

The overall teardrop shape of this piece mimics the shape of the womb, and represents the peaceful miracle associated with pregnancy. The wood portion is separated into two different chambers to symbolize each twin in utero. The large chamber: the healthy twin. The smaller: the parasite. In contrast, the spines of cut and formed sheet metal appear to grow from the smaller chamber and pierce into the larger to symbolize the toxic threat of the parasitic twin to its healthy counterpart. The parasite attacks its host, sometimes to the point of fatality, and yet without the body of the host, the parasitic twin would cease to survive.

With this piece I wanted to symbolize how procreation, the beautiful miracle of life, can occasionally yield dismal results, and I hope to provoke viewers to reflect on the misfortune that often accompanies this biological phenomenon.

Thank you for all your kind comments! Yes I have done everything myself. The past few semesters have really been about exploring different mediums for me, and I have really developed a love for 3-d work and power tools!
