Description "The iconic red banner of the Union of Hooviet Socialist Republics/Hooviet Union, also called the 'Gear-and-Grain', is an international symbol of proletarian revolution as well as proletarian internationalism and solidarity. The flag's design draws from multiple sources, and throughout the process had underwent multiple changes, especially in the emblem which had alternated between 'Hammer-and-Sickle', 'Wrench-and-Scythe', 'Anvil-and-Pitchfork' and other potential candidates. The final design was approved in December 1922 by statute of the Congress of Hooviets to serve as the basis of the flags of all the constituent Hooviet republics, with only the most minor adjustments in the decades to follow...

"The red flag on which it was based was a leftwing revolutionary symbol well before the inception of the Hooviet Union itself. In particular the crimson colour pays tribute to the memory and martyrdom of the Mareris Commune of 1871 (when the working class and other revolutionaries and radicals who rose up in opposition to the bourgeois government of Prance following the country's disastrous defeat in the Pranco-Pferdian War). The yellow grain and gear, positioned in the upper-left canton of the flag, represents and honours the country agricultural and urban industrial workers which together make up the Proletarian class. The red star represents the Communist Party itself, position at the center of the flag and the grain and gear to symbolize its central leading role in the socialist society to unite, enlighten and guide the proletarian class towards the building of Communism, an egalitarian future free from exploitation and oppression brought about by Capitalism and the Bourgeois classes through the common ownership of the means of production and the abolition of social classes, money and eventually even the state...

"The 'Gear-and-Grain' had served to both inspire and terrorize the world (depending on where one stands to gain or lose in a proletarian revolution) since the birth of the first Communist State in 1922, the wake of the October Revolution and the Strussian Civil War between 1917-1923. While several other Communist parties, movements and later member states of the Communist International would utilize different designs, as a whole the Hooviet Gear-and-Grain had become synonymous with the spread of Hooviet influence and Communism worldwide. The vast majority of Communist factions throughout the Great Wars Era of the Second Age would utilize variations of the design, as would other member states of the Communist International which would arose after the Hooviet Union, with notable exceptions such as Spmaneish People's Republic/Ibmarean Socialist Confederation, the Socialist Republic of Maresia, the Socialist Federative Republic of Braysil, before and during the Second Great War, and following it such as the Germane Worker's Republic and the Hindochineighese Union

"Being the flag of the vanguard state in the Communist world, the Hooviet flag would be at the center of many major historical events during the Second Age, in both times of war and peace: the raising of the Hooviet flag in the radioactive, burnt-out ruins of the Reichstag over the atomic-bombed rubble of Bearlin by Hooviet troops marked the final defeat of >Reichist Germaney in the Second Great War, and hoisted upon the Statue of Freedom in New Port City to mark the beginning of the Fourth Great War of 1984-6 when three superpowers of Tellus and their allies invaded the Federal Republic of Ponyland and its allies. The Gear-and-Grain insignia was among those brought to the Moon during the 1946-49 race to the satellite of Tellus and to the planet Venera as part of the epic international Expedition to Venera of 1967-69...

"Despite the nation it represented being long gone, the ideology it represented, for both good or ill, would endure well pass the Second Age. In the Fourth Age, the People's Empire of the Cloven would adopt a similar flag for their revolutionary cause, replacing the amber Gear-and-Grain symbol with the green 'Cloven Hoof' to represent the united multinational Cloven people, a direct tribute to the by-then fabled 'Empire of Ushr'. In the Fifth Age, the Hooviet Union would find a direct distant successor in the interstellar nation of the Union of Galactic Proletarian Republics, the leader of a now galaxy-spanning alliance of proletarian states, with its flag, while clearly different, drawing clear inspiration from the Hooviet flag of yore. Perhaps this demonstrates that so long as Sapientkind, be it from Tellus/Equus or elsewhere, could dream of a better world free from inequality and injustice and would fight to make it a reality, so too would the red banner fly, in one form or another..."

Another flag from the Second Age in a roll! This time the alternate flag of the Hooviet Union, the Codexverse expy of the Soviet Union. With regard to alternate historical divergences between this Hooviet Union with its RL counterpart (For one, the expy of Leon Trotsky takes power instead of Joseph Stalin), it feels fitting it too should have a different design. The grain laurels and the red star come from an alternate design of the RL soviet flag, while the gear is borrowed from the flag of the Union of Britain from Kaiserreich (The strong similarities are a coincidental but nevertheless a proper homage to one of the most well-conceived alternate history scenarios in popular online media).
