THE BURNINGWhenever I post one of those Deviant Art Journals where I say, “Hey guys! Tell me some suggestions of things you’d like to see me draw!” there are always 2 or 3 people who will say, “Do a tribute drawing of The Burning!”
For those unfamiliar with it- “The Burning” was an early 1980’s slasher movie… one of the less popular ones, that never had any sequels. But it’s actually pretty well made. And it definitely has its own strong cult following of fans.
Personally, I wasn’t as big a fan of “The Burning” as I was for some of the other early 80’s slasher flicks, but the killer character from this film – named “Cropsy” – was designed and created by special makeup effects genius Tom Savini, and looks really great in the film.
Oh yeah and if you are wondering, a girl in the movie really does wear the exact outfit shown in this illustration. I love that stupid T-shirt with the big lips. Only a kid of the early-80’s could think that was cool.
I knocked out this illustration really fast… Just sat down and drew it in about an hour and a half, and colored it even faster. I wanted to post something quick - in time for Halloween!

Or maybe cheap knock-off. Speaking as a kid of the late 70's - early 80's myself, I can remember there were a lot of cheesy T-Shirts sold back then which had cheap imitation images of popular things on them.

this reminds me of a game called clocktower its a game where you are constantly hiding from a crazed killer wielding a pair of garden shears ive never played it but seen it on some top ten scary video games :3

You forgot to mention the fact that former Yes-man (sorry, I couldn't help it) Rick Wakeman did the film's soundtrack.

Personally not a fan of how Cropsy's face was designed in the film, though I absolutely loved Tom Savini's work as a whole (for some reason he reminds me of melted cheese off a pizza).
Then again, I'm always biased for the loveable hockey masked psycho.
And thank the horror gods that Cropsy is 100,000 times more original then Trevor Moorehouse from Bloody Murder.

According to Tom Savini, the reason Cropsy looks that way is because the artist was given only three days to design the makeup.

Honestly, it takes me about 3 minutes to create a concept from scratch. 3 days for makeup I could get, after watching FaceOff where it takes hours to figure out looks in clay vs. pencil.

As always, your art is deceptively simple but fascinating. Your girls are so attractive one forgets that they are not as realistic as some 3D art, and the juxtaposition of girl and hugely hideous monster is unbearably sexy.

Saw this finally a few years ago... Cropsy was a cool villain concept, (and the special/makeup FX are awesome) but the rest was kinda... well... underwhelming. Maybe because of the slow build-up to it all.
But this is awesome.

Love this film. I personally think it's better than Friday part 1. Beliveit or not, although the burning came after friday, the burning was in production before Friday was even conceived!

Cool. You got to thank the director of The Burning. He made this movie awesome. Lou David (I think that's his name) did an awesome job as Cropsy from The Burning

Friday The 13th has always been a fantastic film but The Burning is great in its own right! A rare case of a rip off done right, besides I feel for Cropsy man arnt we all sick of those damn teenagers and their pranks. Im 18 and I hate most of todays youth, if I was burnt like Cropsy I would be going on a killing spree as well. However I would have made sure the hooker I first met was hotter you know?
