Description This is a remake of an old shot taken with my Coolpix 8800 ( can see the old one here : [link] )

I've taken this shot mainly for two reason :

- Try my brand new EOS-20D and compare it ( well it was not really a comparison ) with my CP8800

- Following lot of advice and suggestion on how make it better and in particulary : less artifact from sharpness, less yellowish tone, and less litter.

Today I was walking around Milan, and I saw that place cleaned ( well, quite cleaned ) so I take the shot.

Taken in RAW, processed with PSP with usual color/contrast adjustments, crop, de-barrellize

You will tell me if this shot is better than the old one

There’s so much detail and texture in this.... great shot. I love it. Nice use of the minimal composition.

This is very nice...poetic imagery.

i'm curious though, what is de-barilized?!

hmm i don't think so, but I cannot remember exactly , it was a second shot at the same thing ( the first one had some complains for litter on stairs )

humm i'm not sure i understand... but yes, i saw the first shot, this one is much better!

what i meant was that i dont know what 'de-barilized' means

ah ... my typo, it meant to be barrel distortion correction

I already ed this some time ago!
I love the colours of it and I also love the different forms...
It seems just a bit choatic because round forms being next to triangles...
Cool !

I like the perspective that you took on this one... really amazing, especially the triangle textures and the ladder on the left... gives it a stronger feeling

this is a reshooted one ... so I just study a little the composition and perspective

Master of minimalism.
This is superb...I love your stuff. The gracious curve of the staircase contrasting with the sharp edges of the triangle pattern. The addition of the drain near the middle is a nice touch too. The colors work well together, both flowing together and contrasting. Very well done.

Actually, in my opinion, I think the old version is better. The clutter adds to the picture; it brings a sense of realism to it showing how something of beauty can be deterioated by people who wish not to see it.

bupo In reply to enticement [2005-08-09 14:50:08 +0000 UTC]

yup, I cannot say which one I prefer...actually it's the same location but two different shots...a dirty one vs a clean one...full vs empty...lived vs dead...hmmm

Much better and hell i am jelous about the 20D!

Maybe include someone walking down the stairs?
A woman in a white dress with black hair and her
hand on the rail

Nah, forget it. Its great to see such nice minimalism!

Thx Renè, you give me a real nice idea. That stair is closed so I've no chance to go there

I'm just taking confidence with 20D, a great camera and I'm having to learn a lot.

Really not that big a difference in both shots appart from the litter. All really a play of settings that can be adjusted and achieved on both camera's.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

bupo In reply to Akiwind [2005-08-06 18:34:22 +0000 UTC]

Probably the 'shot quality' difference could be seen only with full size shot

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Akiwind In reply to bupo [2005-08-07 03:11:35 +0000 UTC]

I did view both full size but I suppose you're right on the shot's quality. one is sharper. but heck..more pixels the better so cant complain there. have fun with the new camera

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

bupo In reply to Akiwind [2005-09-14 17:12:20 +0000 UTC]

eh eh the Mpixel are the same but it's not a fair comparison ... it's a dSLR versus a P&S
