did you use some kind of fisheye lens or something?, it gives this really deep feel to it either way

I used an ultrawide lens (14mm). It's not a fish-eye so it doesn't produce that rounded distortion, but it does produce rectilinear distortion that you're seeing here. Lines tend to get stretched towards the edges produces this kind of super deep look to the image.
