Description Wetland/Moorescape in southern Germany (SchΓΆnram). The swamp is very big and dangerous when you get caught by night or fog, but one of the most exiting locations I know.

Lovely and mysterious! Wonderful photo! I love when nature is bit cruel and rough and this photo shows nature`s power to change itself! And it is quite surprise to me that this swamp view is actually in southern Germany. Looks like Latvia or even like Murmansk region.

Wow, if you use your imagination, the reflactions in the water do resemble that of the dead marshes

And change with mosquitos and snakes?

Yes, I'm sure if I actually settled in there I would have solved the mosquitoes and snakes problem.

I just kept searching this photo to find Gollum perched somewhere along the banks....... Great angle, I love the reflection of the sky in the water.

You can add Gollum somewhere, would be a nice idea for a manip

I'd love to do that if I knew how. Maybe I could experiment..... I'd have to find a stock of Gollum somewhere, and then figure out how to use photoshop.....hmm...I think I shall try it sometime.

Looks a lot like north Louisiana. You probably don't have to worry about alligators though.

No, I guess they don't like our long and hard winters.

In the summer evenings, when the air gets cool but the water is still warm, we get something best translated as "dancing fairies"(translated from Swedish "Γ„lvadans") on the water.
It's small streaks of water vapour that seems to 'dance' across the surface of the water. Does this happen here as well? If so, it must be look amazing

Burtn In reply to jLundhArt [2013-04-22 11:55:40 +0000 UTC]

Yes, it happens here too, especially after thunderstorms and in autumn where the temperature differences between day and night are very big. In very dark nights you can see some lumination and light effects too that are caused by phosphoric gases generated by organic decay. I wanna be the first that will take a fotograph of this.

I will. The problem is that I hate going in the swamp at night. Lost my rubberboots last year..

Haha, I looked at this picture because I thought "Oh, wow, this looks just like the forests back home" and then I read the description and duh, it's because this is basically a picture of the forests I know from back home. XD I come from a place 200 km farther north, but the forests near the Czech border look just like this.

Well, these moores were generated by the last ice age so you'll find them everywhere near the alps.

This is a really lovely piece of work. (I spent a long time staring at the details before I could convince myself that no, indeed, it's not a photograph.)

jLundhArt In reply to snarglefoop [2013-04-21 20:38:34 +0000 UTC]

But it IS a photograph.

snarglefoop In reply to jLundhArt [2013-04-21 21:20:58 +0000 UTC]

Eh? But the reflection of the snag just to the upper right of the center of the picture is wrong -- there's an extra tree in the reflection. A lower eye point, such as one should have in the reflection, shouldn't do that -- there should just be blank sky behind the snag.

Anyway it's a lovely photo...

I've been trying too see what you're speaking of, but I can't.
But, you need to consider that this picture has been shot at a much wider focal angle, 18mm, than the human eye has, which is around 50mm. So what a normal person would see when walking through the same scene doesn't really apply.
And, yes. Yes it is a lovely photo.

snarglefoop In reply to jLundhArt [2013-04-22 01:45:08 +0000 UTC]

I uploaded the detail I thought seemed wrong, with the tree and its reflection circled:

[link]

That doesn't look as clear as it seemed to me, so here it is again, but this time run through a bit of enhancement (retinex, unsharp mask, equalize, in small doses):

Given that it's a photo, this must just be one of those surprising cases where the angles don't produce the result one might have expected...

Hi, I had to watch my own picture to find out what is wrong. The trees in the reflection where you would expect just blue sky are much nearer than the others. They are on the little island in the swamp and very small. Hard to see because of the background over the surface. The other thing is that the black moore water is reflecting very strongly, so it is not easy to see where the surface of the water is. Mother Nature is playing tricks on us.
