Description A walkway in Linlithgow Palace.

The majestic royal palace of the Stewarts at Linlithgow today lies roofless and ruined. Yet the visitor still feels a sense of awe on entering its gates. It was begun by James I in 1424, rising like a phoenix from the flames following a fire that devastated its predecessor. It became a truly elegant ‘pleasure palace’, and a welcome stopping-place for the royal family along the busy road linking Edinburgh Castle and Stirling Castle.

The Stewart queens especially liked its tranquillity and fresh air. The ancient palace served as the royal nursery for James V (born 1512), Mary Queen of Scots (born 1542) and Princess Elizabeth (born 1596), better known as ‘the Winter Queen’. But after 1603, when James VI moved the royal court to London following his coronation as James I of England, the palace fell quickly into decline. The end came ignominiously in September 1745, when a fire swept through the ghostly rooms.

How amazing is this shot! I really do enjoy the fact you chose B&W too, that's perfect for a shot such as this one.

Adding the history to it, enhances it to give it that extra depth to the feel of what viewers are seeing too. History is one of my favourite subjects.

Beautiful image.

Added.

Thank you! :0)

I don't often put any history, or story to my pics unless I feel it merits it.

Sometimes, no need to either.

I am off to London tomorrow, all being well, to do more, I hope. No idea what I will be able to photograph, but will try for some fairly nice ones at least, anyway.

London has so much to photograph, hope you enjoy your trip. Just watch out for homeland security lol. but seriously there are some things you'll get into trouble ofr photographing, or at least for spending too much time on.... I read about it recently. :0)

Yes it does. I am nervy going there on my own, each time I do go there, but I want some architectural images too. I haven't enough of those anymore, did have though.

:-D Yes, I will be careful of homeland security, hahahaha.

You are right, there are certain things people can be in trouble for photographing. I won't be taking any images of important buildings etc., though. I will be okay.

I don't use transport there, but have one or two places I would like to walk to, which are lovely areas anyway and as I walk, who knows what I will see. I will be walking a long distance all in all.

I want some people ones too, just wandering from A-B.

If I see someone on Sky news being arrested for randomly taking pictures of passers by in London - I'll know it's you!
People ones are great, specially candid ones. Go for it, lie in wait and get them!
It's also great if you can spot a celeb.

Making me wanna go to London now!

Hahahaha, yep, that'll be me then. :-D

Yes, is what I was thinking too, lay in wait, hehehe. If possible anyway.

Never do see celebs myself, but I am useless to tell if they would be or not anyway - they do look different in the flesh as such, so I wouldn't be good at that, too many people to sift through. LOL

:-D I want to go to Edinburgh again now myself, let alone you wanting to go to London. LOL
