After feeling quite disappointed with the last picture I drew, I wanted to pull out all the stops - I also wanted to make sure I could nail this guy's face! I've drawn him twice as Harvey and I wasn't thrilled with either, so I thought I'd try him as himself (I also wanted a portrait that paired up with my Patrick J. Adams piece, seeing as they're both so awesome). This photo took my fancy because it's Gabriel doing what Gabriel does best - smiling, looking scruffy and not ridiculously overposed or primed.

I also wanted to see if I could pull out all the stops with pencil, try and get a new depth of shading involved, which I'm really pleased with. The corduroy jacket was the icing on the cake really - I'm just glad he didn't have his hair out in this photo! The fabric was fascinating to draw and it was a real learning curve. As a side note, the paper was an absolute dream to work on - I don't think I'll ever be completely content working pencils on anything else!

All in all, I'm just massively happy with this. It's a point of personal pride and I feel seriously back on track with my pencils now.
