Her eyes snapped open, and the silvery glow scalded the pallid white. She gurgled a whimper, trying to pull herself up. She was propped upon ornate pillows, and seated by a tiny, round tea table. The scent of the steaming pot was not pleasant and spicy, like Julian’s brew, but brackish and dried, like salted fish.

Across the table, grinning his flyblown smile, was Mr. Princep.

The crisp gray-blue suit, the scruffy wisps of dark around his ears, the devitalizing eyes of a vampyre, and the toothy grin trying mildly to hide the bubbling sadism. He shot Willy a wink, and poured a cup of tea from his spike-capped pot.

“Little Willy-nilly, oh, it’s been too long! My dear sweet child, I’m so glad you’ve agrred to a shared cup of tea!” His voice dripped with revolting false folksy.

Think tea with granny is tedious? Well, at least it doesn't end with murder... usually
