Some say the outbreaks of crying, "I saw someone with a hose at my window!" was mass hysteria. Whatever truly happened, people were getting sick. It began in Virginia during the early 1930s, and a new flap occurred in Illinois during the mid-1940s. People were coming home or had already been home when suddenly they felt ill. Turning to face a window a figure would be seen pointing a hose inside the house. A strange odor was normally present leading the ailing individuals to believe they were being gassed. Police was called enough for all to know the Gasser did not appear the same too many times. Some were male and some were female. It led some to believe more than one person was involved, but if it wasn't hysteria; what was the purpose of these activities?
