The smell of pines mixed with the smell of water, creating an aroma to please any nose. Bryn walked away from the other fawns, with a tears coming from his eyes, dripping onto the pine needles that littered the ground. The young ones all teased him as he walked away, calling him nasty names, but they didn't chase after him, and soon found someone else to torment.

Laying down away from the towering pines, Bryn cried quietly to himself, more angry and frustrated than sad. All the other fawns were bigger than him, how was he going to keep up with them? He hated the game they had been playing, kill the wolf. He was always picked to be the wolf, and everyone would gang up on him to beat him up. He much preferred the ones with running and chasing, sometimes hiding games were fun to do also.

Thinking to himself about all the nasty things he would do to the meanies tomorrow, he didn't notice a doe come up behind him.

"What's wrong?", she asked, lowering her head down to his level. Bryn turned to her, and sniffling hid his face away from her.

"I weren't cryin'!" he told her, "They's were just mean!"

A sad smile came to the does face, and she laid down in front of him. Looking around to see if anyone would here her, she asked, "Would you like me to tell you a story, to take your mind from it." Widening her smile, she looked at Bryn expectantly.

Looking up, his eyes stopped watering the ground, and he nodded eagerly. "Please momma, tell one of a royal princess!"

Eyes brighting, the doe began.

"Long ago, in a land far away, there was a princess. She was as bright as brand new snow on the ground, but where ever she walked new life sprang up. See, unlike snow, she brought warmth and happiness, not death and sorrow. Many a fawnling would gather around her to bask in her glory, and all the creatures of the forest would not harm her, for she brought the spring with her. No wolf, ice bear, or cat ever touched her, for fear of a curse that would be placed upon them. For see, she was also cursed, she could never stay in one area for too long, for if she did, chaos would surely follow. She never gave her heart to any stag, for if she did, she knew he would want her to stay with him, and she just could not do that. She had a calling, to bring balance to the world, to bring life, and leave with death."

Pausing, the doe closed her eyes. Bryn stared at her, mouth hanging wide open. "I'in there more?" he asked.

"Opening her eyes as if from a dream, she smiled at him, "I will finish this story tonight. Are you feeling better?" Nodding his head enthusiastically, she got up and went to his side. Nuzzling his mane, she whispered, "Then go play, my little wolf, you will surely beat all the evil."
