Description
On Christmas Day 2014, I took a trip out to the Columbia River Gorge to do some photography, mainly timelapse. It was typical Oregonian weather in the gorge, with intermittent showers giving way to bright mid-day sunlight every few minutes, perfect for nice, moody timelapses. There was scarcely anyone else in the gorge that day, even at popular viewpoints like Vista House, where this picture was taken. As I stood watching the clouds over the river begin to part, looking for the right subject for my next timelapse, I spied, in the distance a lone van heading up the winding road to the viewpoint. Knowing I could capture the moment much better in a single shot, I readied my composition, took a few test exposures while I knew the van was still out of frame, and then snapped this photo.
