Wh- who wants to see my Grillby colours headcanons??? *sweating profusely* (a lot of which I leeched off of ‘s fanfic “Postcards from Waterfall”)
Ok so I have some… FEELINGS about how Grillby’s fire reflects his emotions, physical condition and intent (since in Undertale, Intent is everything) And this is basically what I got an a really good representation of my mental eye if I do say so myself.
I do also have headcanons for the different way his fore BEHAVES and how high or low it is depending on things, but I just wanted to play with colour here and just used the same sketch for all of it.
I wrote on the drawings but basically:
1: Normal. I guess the “default” state of Grillby’s fire if you will. It gives of a good fireplace like heat which keeps the bar a nice cozy place in Snowdin to be.
2: In danger/emotional distress. Like a person becoming pale. His temperature drops and his flames darken. If it is just emotional his flames become eratic and lower but that’s about it. However if its from injury they become less like fire and become more “magic” in their appearance. Rounded and ebbing slowly, barely resembling fire. He also stops giving off light like this.
3: Blushing or flustered. His Temperature spikes for a brief moment and his fire becomes slightly out of control and he shoots off sparks and embers haphazardly. The reaction is usually only a few minutes before he calms down again.
4: Super incredibly happy. His flames take on a multi-colour look as his tempreture fluctuates between regular warmth to getting hot to be close to. His fire is lively and rolling. He throws off embers as well but they’re less explosive and he has a glow to him that radiates more than just being a light source.
5: A very dangerous, searing, concentrated heat. Standing next to him doesn’t feel any warmer than normal, but direct touch would be like sticking your hand in the path of a blowtorch used to shape glass. Anything he’d touch would either burst into flame or would melt rock and glass into a liquid state. This is a kind of anger, but not the explosive kind. This is an anger that is focused, direct and dangerous. Possibly with intent to actually harm and injure. As a result, this look has never been seen and although possible, it is not in Grillby’s nature. Meaning this one is more a theoretical drawing than a state you’d ever see him in.
6: Running hot. So bright is very difficult to look directly at him. His flames start moving in a way where its difficult to hold the look of a human form. And arms and head become a more vague shape than actual features (Like a tall version of Flamesman kinda) It becomes borderline unbearable to stand close to him due to the heat he gives off and the room becomes sweltering. This is a more common sight if Grillby ever gets honestly angry. The kind of explosive emotional anger that comes from losing your temper over something. Its like a physical representation of shouting. He also loses his ability to control what he burns, meaning he easily leaves permanent scorch marks on things he touches and causes glass to shatter around him. It is ill advised to try to touch any part of him like this because you run the risk of getting first to 2nd degree burns. Something which, after he calms down, would upset Grillby greatly that his physical way of existing actually hurt someone.

I drew Grillby on Paper, did the colours in Sai and then added details and coloured the linework in photoshop.
