Took me long enough. >.< This was originally for Kayden's birthday on July 15th, but since I was busy at the time, it completely slipped my mind. Oh, this was drawn within a few days after the event, and I got most of it blocked out and shaded...but then I let it sit. I don't know why -- it was easy enough to finish off, but for some reason I just didn't feel like working on it. Perhaps it was my own fault -- the longer I waited past the due date, the more I got swept up with other things, and didn't want to work on this. Finally got my butt in gear and finished it last night, though it's a bit late to be considered even a belated birthday picture. I suppose it can just be a regular picture, but one that coincidentally matches the style I was going for with the other birthday pictures this year.

It's a really simple picture, I'll admit, but then again -- the rest of them have been the same way as well. It was interesting trying out a profile shot again in this style, since it's not something I do very often. I think because I originally tried this style in front and 3/4 views, so I know that's the way it looks best. Profiles, on the other hand, are a different beast entirely. This looks nice though, and it really highlights her hairstyle. I know that's a silly thing to point out, but Kay does have really pretty hair, and somehow it being short now makes the waves really stand out -- her hair looks all wonderfully poofy!

The rest of her outfit is relatively simple. About the only thing I changed was that ~erin-hime gave Kay a short-sleeved variant of her usual jacket in her new ID picture , and I thought it looked really nice. She said it was Kay's warm-weather jacket, and since the weather is warm outside, it seemed appropriate. You don't want to draw long sleeves when it's too hot to wear them, after all.

The little sparkle was put in there mostly because ~erin-hime pointed out this had a slight resemblance to a much older picture of mine, which I'd forgotten about! She had a point, and even though I didn't have time to put Dylan in there, I could put a random sparkle. Funny the things you can make in Illustrator -- it had an option just to make those! I had no idea lens flares were such a huge commodity in the vector world.

Anyway, it's not much at all, but it turned out pretty cute nevertheless. I hope you like this, ~erin-hime !
