Funny, this was actually from a somewhat old-ish cartoon called Super Robot Monket Team Hyperforce Go. This came from one episode where they land on a desert planet.
Man I wish they show got a proper ending.

The better question is how the suns are able to sustain themselves without gravitating into one another, either causing a devastating collision or slingshotting one sun across the solar system

Nah, it used to be a normal planet until a statue caused it to drain the life force out of it.
It turns back but there were no cold stars the last time I watched the episode he
