Description It has been awhile since I have done a diptych.

I'm not sure if any of you remember, but a few years ago, I visited and photographed my dad's old friend Pipas. The pipe never leaves his mouth and he claims that his "engine" runs with wine, never water. I love visiting, sitting there silently with my camera. He puffs away while his tongue twirls in Basque, telling old stories and talking as if things never change.

Your photos are an amazing inspiration. You manage to capture and translate into the photo the very soul of the person shown in it making the viewer sympathetic to the subject's fate. And this ability of yours is priceless.

Can you understand Basque?

Unfortunately not, only spanish. I wish I knew Basque, but it is such a strange and difficult language to grasp.

beautiful- the way heis hands come out of the smoke, his rouhg skin, the compositon and the angle of the shoot.

it remainds me your "Afternoon With Vince", like a Clint Eastwood's movie atmosphere

I first smoked tobacco with a cheap pipe I bought from a Pharmacy. That was about three years ago when I was a freshman at artschool. I kept up with the habit for a while, buying better pipes and trying more exotic flavors of tobacco, usually english and american blends. My pipes kept breaking on me, so I stopped using the pipe and eventually got hooked on cigarettes.

I still miss the class and elegance of pipe smoking.

A rich and gorgeous diptych. The detail of his lined hand in contrast with the soft smoke is striking. His surroundings, while blurred, tell a story in harmony with his face.
Lovely...
